Thanks for the input guys. I think right now I'm just pissed off and will get over it, but I don't see the light at the end of the tunnel and the service depts here in Austin collectively suck and I'm tired of dealing with them. I won't lose much at all on selling or trading in if I get anywhere near KBB on it and since I've taken excellent care of my Z (like all my350 members). I see the point of the aftermarket suspension in order to keep the car, but that is more money out of my pocket on a problem I feel I shouldn't have to pay for and if the problem persists then I can't go to Nissan since it won't be covered under warranty. It just seems stupid to me that this problem exists and Nissan has known about it for a year now and still hasn't done anything to address the source of the problem which is the engineering of the vehicle. Swapping/replacing tires is nice and all, but its just going to have to happen again and again which doesn't make sense to me.

Understand how you feel, however about 6 0r so pages back a couple of "former" 350 owners only received $22K on a trade...That's $8K under KBB.
Good luck my friend

Have had the car 6mo.
Had 4K on it when I got it. (dealer demo)
Roaring started to get bad 6 weeks ago.

Thanks.
UPDATE. Had the TSB done. Noise is 80% better. Alignment is much much better, no pulling at all. Tires look real cupped on the outside edges now. Hope I get another 5K or so.

They paniced, kbb tradein for a Touring is $28K, private party $30K in my neck of the woods. Just because it happens to a few, doesn't mean anyone else should. Bad decisions.

Default Turned her in this morning...

Turned my Z in this morning for the final repair under the state of Florida Lemon Law. The Nissan Tech has 10 days from today to correct the problem.

So it was kinda sad turning her in at 7 am - what sucks is the "rental" was not waiting for me. So I had to take the courtsey van to work. As long as the rental picks me up from work this afternoon - all will be fine.

I'll keep everyone posted.

Default Tire Feathering

Just finished reading this thread and others. I too had similar issues. I have taken my car in 3 times. The first two times, the technician claimed he could not hear the sounds. The third time, it was diagnosed as "chopped tires" and I was advised to call the tire company. Pretty infuriating.

My next step is to contact the dealer. Meanwile, I'll start meeting the necessary Texas lemon law requirements.

As a practicing consumer rights attorney in Texas, this looks to me like an excellent case for a class action suit against Nissan.

Has anyone sought legal advice?

Some have tried individually and one guy got started on a class action but have not heard anything more. Might want to log your complaint on the NHSTA web site for unsafe tires/suspension.

Nope - Just the standard "We'll get back with you". The NNA Tech has the list of the LL problems. So I hope there is no misunderstanding as to what needs to eb fixed.

22 K on a trade and 28 KBB? Man that sucks on both of those numbers, glad KBB is much higher here, will give more leverage if I go that route, but right now I'm hanging on to the car.

Hi
I just joined this group at a suggestion from a friend and I am SOOOOOOOO glad I did. I thought I was going crazy with the new "roar" that developed in my Z.

I waited 16 years for the new Z and I could almost cry (Hey, I'm a chick!) reading about all of these problems. I still love the way it drives and only seem to have the tire/alignment problem right now. I only have 8200 miles. The "roar" developed about 1.000 miles ago and has gotten louder.

I brought it in for my 7500 mile maintenance. I was told that the car was out of alignment. When I asked how did this happen, the service writer indicated that I must have hit a pothole. Also, I was told that the tires were wearing unevenly and that they were over inflated. It seems that the on-board tire pressure gauges are inaccurate by about 4 to 5 pounds.

In any case, after reading about all of the alignment/tire feathering problems, I called the service department. (Of course, I haven't gotten a call back yet!) I am so glad that I can use the technical terms that I learned on this Forum.

I only have two months left to my warranty and will definitely make myself the biggest pain in the butt my dealership ever had to deal with to get these problems corrected.

Thanks to all of you for sharing. I'll keep you posted.

I hope I don't have to change my name . . . . . .

Default Warranty expiring?

Zhappy -- why do you say the warranty is running out?

Or do you mean the 12k miles 12month to file a tire / alignment claim?

I need some advice. My car has 5900 miles and up until this point I thought my car was immune to this problem. (Production Date 3/03) I have started to notice the "roar" when I slow down, especially when I am going under 25mph. I have not noticed any
tire feathering, but I do know my steering wheel is slighly misaligned. If the steering wheel is placed in the centered position, the car will gradually pull to the right. What is the best way to approach my dealer? Should I wait to the tires show the signs of feathering? Thanks!

I would get it on your service record as sson as possible. The feathering may not get really bad for several thousand miles or months and you could go beyond the 12mo/12000 mile warranty. If you have it on the record I don't think they could deny your claim. Also the pulling to the right could be the compression rod problem. I would be sure to have the dealer check it out.

Jelledge,
Thanks for your reply.
I need to check my warranty information. I was fearful that there is a 12K 12 month warranty.

In any case, I called the dealer with the right "lingo" that I learned from this Forum and I am taking the car in later this week.

I am keeping my fingers crossed.

You have the same problems I had and as you can see in my previous posts - I had to lemon law my Z. The crooked steering wheel and the "drift" are all signs of the 350z grimlin's.

The best thing to do is take the service person for a little car ride. It's quite had to dispute the problem when it's sitting in front of their face in all it's glory.

lascala26,

Ditto the other's remarks. I would also call Nissan (1-800 Nissan1) The more folks that report this, the better our chances are of getting a real fix, and our bad tires replaced.

Wow... I am actually impressed with my dealer for once. It only took them 4 days to order and receive a set of replacement Bridgestone Potenza 040's for me. We'll see how it works out.
