I'm married too and I understand that you used all of these reasons to convince your wife that you needed the G35 But Steve your talkin to car guys now and that BS won't float.
Convince her??? You sure you're married?
1) Not possible, 2) "It doesn't have a back seat???" (Her Day 1 comment on the Z)

Like I said, lots of reasons, not all have anything to do with the car directly...things change.

Well, there is one point there Boomer - why should you have to spend money replacing a new suspension (I say new as in about a year), buying new tires because the first set puked due to some mystery problem...you get my point.

The Z is a bargain at its price but not if I should have to dump money into new springs/shocks and who knows what else...I'm all for upgrades, but usually wait until the first set has some real wear on them...good luck!

Then, what's your time worth? I'm cutting my losses and walking before I go from losing next to no $$$ to $10k or more in a year due to depreciation and or low resale value due to crap like this tire issue.

Good points, Steve. I usually wait until 30,000 miles before I do upgrades on a car, it makes almost new again. I resent that I have to do it to be able to enjoy ownership, this is wrong. As I replace OE parts for upgraded ones, I am no longer in the affordable for everyone 350Z. I am setting aside $ that should not need to be spent. I am fortunate that the other Z problems are minimal, grease on the windows will not be repaired, every thing else is in good shape so far.

Time is very important to me and I value it highly as I grow older, if I were not retired, the Z would have been sold long ago, but I have only 7880 miles on it and it is still holding its value in kbb and Edmunds, so I will continue to wait for the Konis. I too, have another car as well. I am not waiting patiently, however.

I can confirm this, as this was told to me by a very reliable source from within NNA which I cannot disclose. They told me that their WILL be a fix in January, and they WILL NOT leave their customers behind.

thanks for the follow-up. that makes me feel better that i was not the only one to have heard this. I am very new at dealing professionally about personally owned vehicles, being in my mid-twenties, and its nice to know that i was not given a run-around or a quick answer because i might be a little "green around the edges", all which i have heard from other dealers in the past when dealing on cars. every time which i have walked away.

I certainly hope both of you are correct. Many of us have waited over a YEAR for a fix.

I second that Boomer.

PS- My tranny just went out and is being replaced. 23k miles and started buzzing like a bee hive. I hear they are on the 4th gen tranny now. And they are replacing my clutch pedal. Why? I do not know.

Anyone?

Default Hey ezchief -- results of engineer inspection?

What did the Nissan engineers have to say about your car? Did they comment on the extra toe in you are running?

They told me my tires were normal -- meaning massive heel - toe wear is expected at 6000 miles.....

Basically, a waste of time as far as input goes. Hopefully the output from the inspection goes as good as some here are stating. I left my car while I went to work. The techs were gone when I picked it up in the evening. The write up said the toe was in spec and tires are normal. The end. Hope the data helped them with a fix.

No one really knows why the clutch pedal assembly is being replaced. But, the latest news is that it's not being replaced anymore. Check out:

ok,
regarding the purported "fix" that is coming in January...just for clarification - this is an expected NNA fix for the front end alignment tire feathering problem? and if so, how do ya'll think being offerred this 'fix' will be impacted by our having aftermarket tires & wheels? Is there anything to be concerned about...that we won't be eligible or something?

Maybe I answer my own question...that it's a suspension/vehicle problem, not a tire or wheel problem, so aftremarket rubber/rims is not relevant.

The clutch in the '04 G35 Coupe is much smoother than in my '03Z, my guess is like the tranny they are past 1st gen and have made some changes. I was also getting some tranny noise at only 11k, maybe nothing but my gut instinct is "near-future-problems".

Mechanical noises like that which slowly get louder and more vibration usually don't go away. W/o any pride, I have had dead transmissions on other cars, usually either cooked the main shaft bearings (Altima), lost synchros (Ford), or lost just one gear (5-speed in a Turbo Capri). If anything, a transmission properly maintained should be just as quiet as new with fresh fluid at 11k - it was not.

Ok thought I'd post again on the Feathering thing. Went to the Dealership for my second set of front tires. It's getting me kindof upset now. I guess I'll just get my tire change at every oil change. It seems the Dealership is getting furstrated with Nissan because of all the return for getting new tires. Damit NISSAN HOOK IT UP!!!!

Default Hello - I'm back

Just got back from Christmas in NYC.... 5 new pages - wow!!

Any ways - I'm 6 days away from turning in my Z for the final repair. I received my FedEx letter and I'm ready to go. My Z is in full bloom with her problems. So I'll report back on Monday after I turn her in - I hope I'm able to take the Tech for a "ride" before they give me a loaner car. The Tech has 10 days to fix the car (till the 15th)....

So I guess we'll see....

cheers!

I hope you guys are right....but my synical side tells me otherwise.

I can hear it now. NNA 1/21/04 Press Release

All Nissan owners and techs are morons. No one in the USA can align a car properly. Nissan sent out Japanese techs to inspect hundreds of cars and came to this conclusion. American's are fat, lazy, improper toe setting slugs. We take back the armistice and declare war on you slugs. If you can re-open Iraq, we can re-open the South Pacific.

For questions, please call NNA. They too are slugs. In fact, we are closing that office. Direct calls to Carlos Ghosn, that great French man who loves cheese and wine. All hail Carlos.

Man I have gotten synical.

I think Nissan may be trying, but I don't think Renault gives a tinker's damn about us.

Guys:
I talked to the Service Manager at my dealership. He has been very upfront with me throughout this totally horrible experience. I mentioned to him that there seems to be strong rumors of a fix for the feathering problem. He acknowledged that he too had talked to the folks at corporate and said there was nothing new. I hope your right and he is wrong!!!!
