I had my car done the other day and have driven it for three days without incident. It works just fine. The dealership started the recall work taking about 4 hours to do and now it is down to 2.5 hours using their experienced mechanic.

Anyone who has their dealer do this is crazy. There is no way it will ever be the same afterwards. Rattles, missing parts, loose bolts and nuts will be far worse than the possibilty of a fuel leak. Any recall now is based on ultraconservative information. Until I detect an actual problem of leaking fuel this will not be done to my car. If it is ever needed I will sell it after it is done.

In my opinion, the car will be more unsafe after a dealer does this kind my major teardown. Thanks, but no thanks.

1) Friend who is at Infiniti

2) 1-800 customer service rep

I'd trust those 2 over some service manager, esp. after I've seen the few over here try to dick countless people over and talk out of their ***

Feel the same even though my VIN is not in the recall range. In service depts the customer basically comes last.

We should all send emails to Nissan to Protest their awful customer service.

We should picket in front of their headquarters! We have the people to do it.

Well 99 since the Nissan customer service reps, can't give you that information, they are not allowed to. I have called them and tried to get it a bunch a times, whatever they tell you, I wouldn't believe at all. I just got back a phonecall from the service manager of my dealership who I trust very much, it took him 2 days worth of phonecalls to Nissan Tech Sevice line that only dealerships can call, and he informed yes there was an incident of thios happening up North, I will believe him over anyone, he also told me it is not the ozone that makes the hoses crack and fall apart. It is the additives that are used in the gas, that is causing this. And weather the hoses will crack and how long it will take for them to crack, depends on the gas you use and the additives that are in it. I have known this guy years and trust him 100%, so I would your friend, do a little more research. But the biggest fact of the matter is, Nissan would not do this, if they didn't think that it was very important and a big problem, no company weather it be Nissan, Honda, Toyota or any other auto manafactuer, would spend this kind of money on something, unless they thought there was a real concern and that's the bottom line.

Oh yeah also the other thing I forgot to mention, if you are going to wait until you see a leak before getting this done. Odds are you will not know when it's leaking, the concern is the flumes, not the gas leak. It will also be be very hard to tell if there is a leak, because the hoses is buried so far up in the car, it would be very hard to see if there is a leak unless the hose cracks completely in half. But I do wish the best of luck to the guys that aren't going to do and hope you stay safe. The way I look at it, is if they don't screw it up, which I don't think my dealership will, everything is great. If they do screw it up, and it falls apart, I will get a new car. I only want the Z to make it until Oct 2007, when Toyota releases the new Supra, then I am goingto trade the Z in anyway.

the answer is more simple than that

People who get this recall done should ask for the OLD tubes back, and inspect them. It would be nice to see the state of wear on those and would give some more indications to the problem. PICTURES WOULD BE HIGHLY APPRECIATED If the situtation is that bad, tHe state of wear should be visible to naked eye.

They may not be able to give you the old tubes back but they might let you at least see them and or take pictures of them. In the past, when I've asked for old parts back due to recalls on my Maxima, the dealers said no and that they have to be sent back to Nissan.

I'm guessing the motivation for the above is that Nissan doesn't want defective parts floating around and being resold (esp. by shady dealers).

I will be taking pictures of the hoses that come off my car tomorrow, my boss at work also has a Z, and asked me to. So I will post them on here.

Boy the dealerships in your area must be really bad, I have never had a problem with the dealership I go to, there customer service is outstanding. I also don't see how you blame Nissan for this, they don't own the dealership and if you have a bad experence with a dealership, then report them to Nissan, I am sure they will look into and complaints they get about a dealership. But if they don't know about it, then how can they do anything.

Is this Reed or Classic? I've been taking my car to Universal. I'm fed up with their cutomer service (or lack of). When they changed the Bose headunit because of the cd skipping, they scratched the center panel. I always ask them to inspect the car when I drop it off and I tell them I want it back in the same condition. I showed them where the center dash piece had been scratched, they said they would have an 'interior specialist' repair it as a 'goodwill' gesture (my ***, they fuc*&@ up the job by not being careful and didn't want to admit it). I told them to avoid further damage to my car, I would remove the piece and bring it to them. When I picked it up, I brought along the nav lid that sits in the middle of the piece, it was a different color (the 'specialist' had painted the piece). I proceded to argue with the service manager about this (he kept insisting they were the same color). I told them this was unacceptable for my car to have a two-tone dash because they did not want to be careful and told them I wanted a new piece ordered. He said he would but politly asked me not to bring my car back to them. I said no problem, if they can not stand behind their work, I will take my car elsewhere. I got the new piece and installed it myself without damaging anything, something which their 'factory certified' $120 an hour technicians seemed uncapable of doing. After this incident, I decided to cancel my service policy with Nissan since they obviously cannot work on the car without damaging something else.

Here is a quote from a Canadian service manager on the recall:

----------------------------------------------------------------------
so here's the skinny on this recall. it is a bit of a PITA. our guys aren't meeting the flat rate time yet, but i'm sure they will once they've done a few more.

if anyone is considering not doing the job, don't. Jason's fuel lines DID have the cracks they speak of in the campaign, as have the others we've done, so please don't ignore this.

on another note, we've discovered that the design of the fuel filler neck does not allow the insertion of a fuel caddy tube to extract the fuel. in other words, please plan on arriving with an almost empty tank. if the guy i turned away this morning with a full tank is on the board, i appologize for nobody telling you this before. we only just figured it out yesterday.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

I am beggining to see two options.
1) Sell the car
2) have it done.

well from a different note, i'm all for picketting against all the issues the physical car has had in the past 3 years, trannies, windows, fuel filler, crank position sensors, lousy front bumper paint adhesion, rattles inside the car, squeeky clutch pedal, feathering front suspension, cracking fuel lines now, and picketing for whatever problem will come up next month for us aging Z owners haha

btw i love my car to pieces nonetheless, but a letter that stated a complete acknowledgement of and to fix all these cumulative problems would be a dream come true...but we all know, it's only a dream, won't happen

Ditto. The service departments in my area and when I was in WA weren't THAT horrible as far as I can tell. They mostly seemed ok to me.

But, I am worried about the magnitude of this job and the # of places where they could screw up while doing the work.

option 3, don't have it done. Ooooh no, the service manage said to have it done, well no **** - they'd lose their job if they discouraged you against doing it

Yeah they are that bad, or at least the only nissan dealership available to me in my area. The other is at least a 100 mile round trip away. Complaints to nissan north america seem to fall on deaf ears. i.e. tire feathering/tire roar problem.

Hey XtaZee, it's niether of those 2 dealerships, I take my car to Bill Ray Nissan, they are on 17-92 in Longwood, that's the only place I will go. I have never had a problem there. And I also had my Bose head unit replaced due to the CD skipping, and even though the tech was careful, he made a small scratch on the console, the difference thought was when I went to pickup the car, the service manager came out and apologize to me, and told me that the tech had made a small scratch on the console and they had order me a whole new unit. The piece came in like 4 days later and when I went back to have them install it, the service manager came out again and apologize, and gave me 3 tickets for my next 3 oil changes for free. As far as I am concerned that was great customer service, they really care about thier customers. I won't go anywere else.
