Current/past problems with your Z.
Here's one for ya...........
When I turn on my heater on "High Heat" and turn the selector to vent, I smell a sort of melting plastic smell coming from the drivers side, vent on the door. It does not smell like that from any other vent on the dash or the passenger door vent. I opened the door and the smell continues from within the area that connectes to the door.
When I turn the heat down, the smell almost goes away, which leads me to believe there might be something in the vent that leads to the door vent that overheats and smells when the temp is on "high".
I have an 04' Roadster "Touring" model.
Anyone else out there ever experience something like this???

I have a rattle in the center of the dash, they ordered a new center lid (where the nav goes). Also had a creaking noise from the rear left wheel, they said it needs a new axle, also ordered. Taking mild curves, "slip" light starts blinking and power is lost, tho it doesn't do it when driving with the tcs off. Had the feathering and fronts replaced at 7k miles, replaced the rears at 14k, right one bald to the bone. Dealer service has been pretty good so far.
first of all I want to say I'm am a pre-order Z owner. I ordered in Apr.02 got z in Oct. 02. This is my 3rd dealer due to Nissans bad customer service. I have finally got some love from my most recent dealer Performance Nissan. I love my Z and would not change it for anything. I wanted my "now" and did'nt want to wait, I just want Nissan to fix my problems and have seen NISSAN drag their feet. The advisers can only do so much.
These are my problems and the outcomes so far go luck to all and hit me up if for any question or to team up/meet to discuss these problems.
1. Window streak- fixed after second time. door panels damaged with door removal pry tool thingy. dealer had to replace.
2. drivers side seat bolster and seat bottom coming undone. dealer replaced once getting it done 2nd time.
3. Cupping/Drifting to right- 3mo. waiting for tires on back order. 1st. front tires toe-in off was off and had them realigned. Also had a lower control arm replced. Nissan needs to come out with an adj. lower control arm.
4. Tranny repaced at 10,300 mi- grinding on 3rd with clutch all way in. Something about clevis pins too short. Hopefully i got a good one. threw in flywheel.
5. Seat does move dealer always says problem cannot be duplicated always. Heard about a washer fixer upper. Still waiting to be looked into. Thinking about gettiong the Nismo seats.
6. rattes and ticks- getting that ticking from rear strut tower right side like little piece of metal jumping inside when going over bumpy road. They know of problem have'nt got to pin point it. Rattle from dash said something about a tsb looking into it and rattle from driverside door panel inside they say its the window regulator. Advisor said it stiff suspension is going to make it rattle it's a sports car he said.
7. Widow goes up/down sometimes- said it was a safety sensor something about a program. has not happened too much it depends how hard I press the button. goes up all way then down 5-8"
8. Rear axle creaking sound- Removed rear axles cleaned and relubed splines and retorqued. No more problems. Said splines were dry.
9. latest problem is worn a/c belt- getting repaced unknow reason
10. Front brakes replaced at 10,300- warrented unknow problem maybe go fast stop fast. sucks if have to change evern 10k
It's been 13 mo. and have got the run around

I think my tires only started feathering and makin noises after I got my car lowered....?? plus I forgot to go back to align the wheels one week after lowering...
also ahve the problem with the window oil streak, how do you guys fix that anyway? is that covered under warranty?

I have the greasy window streak and feathered tires. Dealer rotated them and fixed the alignment. Now the steering feels different and pulls to the right. At 16000 miles the tires wont ever wear right and they are noisy. I also have a problem with my CD player skipping when its cold, the amp is under the recall but the dealer hasnt replaced it yet. My front brakes are at 20% left and the rotors are gone plus the rear are at 50% already. I do mostly freeway driving and even though the pads are really soft, 16000 miles seems way to early for new brakes. My brother has a Z06 which I think stops better, he tracks it, and at 25000 miles when he put AP racing brakes on it, there was still more than 30% up front. Ive filed a complaint with Nissan. This is what we all get for buying the first model year of a completely new car. We get to work out all the bugs for those that will be buying these a year from now.
Clutch went out at 11,400 miles. Not a lot of warning but did have issures with burnt clutch smell from month one till it finally wouldn't hold. Prior to that, it would engage and hold just fine. Make sure you tell your dealer and he documents it if you have any burnt clutch smells( strange fish oil smell ). If you don't the dealer will just tell you no history and clutch is not covered under warranty
Like eveyone else stock tires fethered and camber on front is uneven and can't be fixed properly.
The clear coat on these cars are almost non existent. The slightest tough and you have a stratch

I've had a few problems as well. I bought mine April 2003. I had ignored a few of them for quite a while but the list keeps getting longer. I have finally come up with a list for this forum as well as the dealership.
Streak on the windows
Noise from rearview mirror
Noise from dash
Cupping on tires
Driver Seat shifting during turns.
Trim on passenger side door near power window button pulling up.

I bought my 350 Z 4 months ago and now that all the excitment for such sport car has dropped, I had encoutered several problems that are starting to annoy me. The more I drive my Z the more problems I realize it exist.
My 350 Z currently has 8000 miles on it and these are the problem I have so far:
Window grease streak
Front tires very noisy when decreasing speed - around 20-30 mph
Cupping and feathering tires
Rear axle creaking
Tranny feels notchy in 2nd gear
I am affraid I find some more in the near future.
If anyone has any recommendations to address those issues, please let me know at fernandolamwu@yahoo.com

What problem did you have with your Bose? Did the dealer fix it for free? I have a problem with the CD skipping.

For those who owns the Track model, do you have an independent button to turn off the VDC and the Traction control? I have been wordering from sometimes now about it. Plus the manual makes reference to 2 different buttoms.

Got my '03 SB Enthusiast back in Sept 2003 with 12K on the odo...
Build date on the car is DEC 2002
The car is better now than when I purchased it thanks to all the TSB's that have been completed and some of my patience; I guess the previous owner got sick of the BS and got rid of it;
Problems that have been corrected so far:
1. Grease streak fixed (although dealer scratched the tint, which they offered to fix, but i figured they would mess that up too, so i brought it back myself to where it was originally tinted)
2. Drivers window would randomly stop working - dealer said power window motor was probably on its way out...
3. creaking from rear axles - fixed - dealer 'says' the rear axles were replaced... problem fixed.
4. misc rattles from dash - still there... now the rattle is directly in front of the speedo gauge, drivers side dash panel... once car is warm it stops...
5. cloth seat covers replaced... what a difference!
6. alignment issues etc... didn't even bother with the dealer - put aftermarket wheels/tires on the car and brough it to a chassis/alignment specialist who were all to familiar with the 350z's alignment issues - got it right the first time around...
7. the paint sucks - i'll deal with that on my own i guess...
no tranny issues yet...
That's about it - needless to say, the Z kicks *** and worth the trouble in my opinion...

However, I have a 5AT Z, so I can only speculate, but there are dozens of references to the stick vibration on this site and I've read most of them..

Take your car to your dealer with a list of the problems you need fixed. They can't address them if you don't bring it in and be nice, expect them to fix them, your car is under warranty. No need to be combative, just tell them what needs fixing. Call Nissan if they can't/won't, don't assume beforehand you have to fight the dealer over the repairs you need.

Hi John, Re clutch noise in neutral...I'm having the same problem but not being as nice as you. The argument that my car isn't any worse than others just doesn't cut it for me. I noticed it's been over 6 months since your post, how is the noise now?
After reading all the multiple tranny replacements I think I'll stick to my guns!

dealer ordered new cover and clips. waiting for parts to arrive
- rear rattle noise
was not able to isolate the noise.
it sounds like metalic noise from inside when driving.
- front paint chipping
contacted NCA and opened up file case, waiting for paint inspection
- cluch noise when neutral
mechanic compared with other 350Z, same noise, he concluded as normal, no fix.

Stewart Nissan fixed the windows, drivers seat, and passenger side trim in one visit. I am waiting on a camber kit and a rearview mirror to finish the repairs. They were extremely nice and already knew about all these problems.
I don't think that this list of problems is excessive for a new model. Just take a look at the 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer on www.mycarstats.com It has around 110 TSBs and 298 Consumer Complaints.
