Default HID just went out!

I bought my 03 used, (base) and the previous owner upgraded the headlights to HIDs. Now one of the lights went out so I need to replace them, but don't know how. Since I can't get in contact with the original owner I can't find out what brand HIDs they were or where to get them from.

I tried doing a search for 5-10 minutes but couldn't find anything. Anyone know how to check what kind of HIDs they are? Where to buy them? And is this something I can do myself? Or should I just take my car down to a local shop?

Any help is much appreciated! Thanks!!

Thanks, but it looks like he is selling only the full kits, not just the bulbs themselves. And I don't know what bulbs would work...

I guess I can PM Jun to see if he could forward me the installation instructions. Thanks for the help!

only way to know is to get underneath there and check it out for yourself. more than likely its just a cheap aftermarket hid kit, in which case the only real option is to buy a new kit or go back to using the stock halogens. it won't be cost effective to troubleshoot what is causing the problem and then try to buy a replacement for that single component on what is likely a proprietary and cheap kit in the first place.

your best bet is to replace the entire conversion kit with a new kit cuz the other bulb is likely to burn out soon. The base Z uses H7 bulbs. The newer HIDS(better/less expensive)are much easier to install than the older generation kits. Good luck.

just do a search under hids online....there are so many of them out there to choose from. The cost of buying the bulbs alone ain't cheap...besides they might not be compatible with your existing ballast and ignitors. i'd go for a new conversion kit if i was you. i got an 03 with HID conversion also.

Wow...that is 100% exactly what happened to me....i just took the hids out and put in reg bulbs not to deal with finding hid's and paying 100+ for a single bulb...I actually have 1 hid bulb and 1 ballast as a set laying around because of this...

PS: The bumper has to come off along with some other plastics pieces...if you plan of changing them...I did it myself...but is was a P.I.T.A.!

There's only 2 major types of HID bulbs I think. Take the bad bulb out and look at it. It shouldn't be that hard. It's easiest to remove the front wheel and get to the headlight from behind the fender lining.

also Yes you can replace the HIDs yourself, Very easy, remove front wheels, remove fender lining clips..thats it.

IMO...Aftermarket HIDs are hit or miss unless you get philips. Never had a problem with Philips HID bulbs or ballasts which I had in my old car, 1996 accord.

just pull the bad bulb out using method mentioned in posts above and buy the same bulb on ebay! You can get a pair of bulbs as low as $55 shipped. I did. Get 6000k. The kit I bought was so old that the plugs didn't match the newer bulbs I bought, so I just cut the ends off and sodered the wires together. This is all done after the ballast, so the original wiring on the car itself will not be modified at all. If you need additional help, pm me after you've pulled the bad bulb out.
