Default VQ not starting due to Carbon build up?

My Z wouldn't start. Thought it could be the chip inside the key or an issue with the alarm system or just low voltage from the batt. None of these were the issue, so I had little choice, but to turn it over to the dealership.

I was told that it was due to carbon build up. The service advisor said they would clean it out and see if this takes care of the issue, but if not, then they'll have to replace a part costing over $900.

Has anyone heard of something like this? Can you shead some light?

Thanks

This was a common problem back before unleaded gas and before fuel system additives. Carbon would clog up the muffler bearings. I don't think this is possible any longer unless you removed the cats. Check for potatoes in the tail pipe outlets. If exhaust is clear the dealer is feeding you Nissan fertilizer. It's expensive but the expense is offset by the extremely poor quality.

By the way. engine "fail to start" will set code(s) in the computer. We need to know the code to help you more.

Alright so the update. The carbon build up was in the throtle chamber, They ended up replacing the part (somehow falling under warranty) and all I have to pay are some small service fees.

I'm cool with that, lets see if the "problem" happens again in a week or two.

Surely if the part is being paid for under warranty, you would expect that would cover the labour also. Or did they look at other things too?

using "seafoam" can clean out all the carbon buildup in a throttle body and feul system, a can costa like $6 at Autozone, I recommend it for anyone who wants to clean up their carbon buildup!

Didn't want to say anything more, you know I would sound like a "know it all" but I suspect you are correct. Not only low blinker fluid most likely also the incorrect temerature range -77C/+144C, and quite possible left handed blinker fluid.

Kudos
