UPDATE: i posted about my problem a while back-i went to my friend
who works at Nissan dealer-F&I manager-mentioned it to him when
car was 13 months old-he was going to arrange to bring it to work
one day and have service look at it-both of our schedules got busy
i waited about 9-10 later and was past 36k miles by then-but only
about 2yrs old-they said it was owner abuse(impossible because my
car is kept showroom clean)they laughed at my wife for bringing it in
and treated her like crap.
i then said F-U and said i will take care of it myself and took it to a
local body shop-they sanded all of the black rubbery material off down
to base plastic-they sprayed a coat of bonding agent, two coats of color
and two coats of clear--had it done in silver to match the other trim in
the car(like the interior door handles)-looks great! got charged $150.00
but new panels at my cost were like $120.00 so not bad.
i am going to have the switch bezels on the steering wheel done the
same way soon-they look horrible now-finish is coming off and looks
scratchy from my wifes fingernails and rings etc...

wow how did i miss this thread?
i have the same problems with the driver side door area and the cubby latch.
i wonder if the 07's+ have this problem too? maybe we can just buy one of those instead of replacing it with an 06 part and having to worry about it happening all over again.

i am sure the 07's are doing it also, i have test driven a few of those
and the material feels the same, just has a couple of minor changes to
switches etc...

I have an 07 only a year old and my drivers side door area just started to peel the other day. Is anyone using anything strange to clean their interior? I use armor all, but I wouldn't think that would damage something like that.

2007, with only 6K on it, and litterally the other day both the door switch panel and the door handle itself both scratched from just ussing the switch and door, and man, that pissed me off. and my car is immaculate and always cared for. and this rubber **** just stripped right off. as far as cleanning I used only interior protectant wipes that stated good on all materials, including rubber plastic, vinyl, etc... going to the dealer for sure on this one. then again aso thoguht as it a good reason to do some custom work on the interior?
Good thing I saw this thread I was about to post if anyone has done or knows where to get some good workre doing the parts, let me know if there ar4e anywhere or good ideas. was thinking about a cloth on it, or re painting, witha few layers to protect it better.

that way it cannot scratch and removes dust.

Covers replaced on warranty
I had just under 36,000 on a 2 year old touring. I had a couple other issues taken care of at the same time. the biggest was stress cracks in the headlight covers.

Chubby latch needs touch-up
Anybody figured a way to fix up the chubby latch yet?
Just ordered the new Alpine IVA-W505 unit and it's goin' drive me nuts looking at that latch until repaired.

UPDATE: I took my car to the dealership on Monday. They told me that for some reason this is happening to cars manufactured in two different years. My car is a 2006. The lady took pictures and told me that she was going to talk to the Nissan representative and go from there. Today I received a call from her and she told me that all the parts are going to be replaced under warranty. The parts that are going to be replaced are the drivers and passenger handle and the console. She states that there is no way to just replace the passenger handle so they will be replacing the entire right panel. If you have this problem, take your car to the dealer =)

Glad I found this post, I was starting to get worried. It feels like I have OCD when it comes to my Z sometimes, I have always had a bit of wear around my door handles but just recently I got some wear around my stereo buttons and navigation area which is even worse. Definitely feels good to know that it isn't me because I do about as much as I can to keep my Z in immaculate condition. This is definitely a problem with the materials having inexcusably bad resistance to human touch. The fact that any scratch is magnified by the white under layer definitely makes the situation as bad as possible. Definitely wish I could just simply fix some of the smaller scratches without having to replace my entire trim.

How do you remove the driver door window switch finishing panel? (the one pictured in post #196) Mine is scratched up and I'm replacing with OEM.
Thanks for the help!
