Default RPMs and Speed Wont Budge?!?!

Just bought a used 04 350z yesterday with 52k miles. Anyhow it was fine untill earlier today when I was driving and 1st and 2nd was fine but when I would put it in 3rd the RPMs would remain at around 3k (wouldn't go up or down) and the speed was not going up at all even though my foot was on the damn floor. I had to coast all the way back to the dealer pretty much cause 2nd was all I had. When I got to Nissan and it sat for a while it stopped doing it..naturally....any ideas what it could be? I have them taking a look at it anyhow but I am just curious....

dude, i have an 07 Z with 4500 miles. and it did the same thing to me, but the speed worked, just the tach was stuck, and then when it released it would move up in rpms really sketchy looking till after a few revs it would be fine.

i had that happen in my '06 but only during one drive it hasn't happened since (car probably had about 10k on it), just my tach was stuck though at 3k then it jumped up to around 5k and i was in 6th gear on the freeway doing about 65, like i said it only happened once but i did notice it and thought it was really strange

How could the throttle body be affecting just a few gears while 2nd gear was fine? If it was the throttle body he would be experiencing acceleration problems no matter what gear he was in.
