I used this info to pull and clean both motors on my newly acquired Roadster. It took 45 mins each. This info helped out big time. Keep up the great work!

My drivers window just stopped responding.

Passenger window opens with keyfob and door button as normal. The symptoms are that the window seems to be getting stuck either in the open or closed position and then the motor stops responding. Later on I was able to close the window when it randomly responded.

I am guessing this means new motor.

 

Anyone have an idea on this? Doing my drivers side door today, and I'm getting the same issue. I did the passenger side a few years back with no issues on the reset.

 

i cant put the spindle and the other part together. how do i do this? help

 

Hey Carson,

Could you be more specific?

When you say Spindle, are you referring to the shaft of the window motor(commutator)?
Re-inserting it into the motor/brush housing can be a little bit of a pain since the spring loaded brushes will continuously push out.
You can try using some needles or paperclips to hold them back until you have the shaft inserted far enough.

Be careful during this step, try not to get grease on the brushes or commutator!

I have done this fix twice to my drivers door 2008. Both times it lasts 3-5 months then starts to cap out again. Not sure if i want to do the whole process again or just by a rebuilt autozone motor. Aggravating!!

 

By the way, for those new to replacing the window motor I did build on VO7848 instructions and wrote up a mega guide. Ton's of step by step pictures. PM me and I can email the ~ 4 MB file. I'm about to do my drivers side window today and try the motor brush repair for the first time.

PS - if there is a Mod out there that knows how to take my ~ 4MB instructions and make it accessible to others PM me and I can email it. Compliments to VO7848 for starting the process!

 

It never fails...I've replaced my passenger side motor twice with zero problems. I changed the motor and used the reset procedure both times and it worked fine. This morning, I did my drivers side window motor and everything went fine until the motor reset procedure. The window will go up and down with the switch with no issue. ie- I can adjust it to just about any position. If I close the window and release the switch the window drops 6" and sits there. If I hit the auto down, it will go to the full open position with no issue. If I hit the auto up it goes to the closed position and immediately backs off 6". It's like it thinks something is in the opening and it backs off when it feels the resistance. I've tried the reset procedure several times with no change.

It's really hard to tell if the reset switch is pushed in or not. I can't recall the other times I pushed the button but it's tough to tell if there is a button pushing in or out.

Anyone else experience this issue? Any ideas what to try to fix this? Thanks.

 

Thanks a lot for sharing this very detailed guidance. I've replaced the motor today by following these steps and it worked like a charm after 3 hours of hassle.

 

Absolutely right, ironically it failed 61 days (2 months) after i cleaned it, ebay was my savior, now i have to wait two weeks for the parcel to reach Western Australia.

 

Cleaning has always only been a temporary fix. Rebuilding your window motor is the best way. The Carbon Brushes for these motors wear down too short to make sufficient contact with the commutator, thus a seemingly dead motor.

this is a good write up, my drivers is acting up on me... but I am going to see if my extended warranty will cover it before I tackle it

Thanks for the tutorial. I tried cleaning the motor but then realized one of the brush was gone...not sure if it was stuck what. At the end i decided to get an used motor at a local parting out place.

It works now but its very loud when moving the window up and down compared to the driver side. I guess its a motor...not sure. It doesnt "grind" or feel sluggish when moving the window up and down, just loud.

From now on i'm just locking my passenger window up forever heh. Fall and Winter is coming and no need for both windows to come down.
