How-To Repair Stuck / Broken Window Motor ...
my 350Z is suffering the same problem here in the UK, its going in under warranty next week and i'm going to insist they put a new motor in. I've had 2 UK 200sx's, one with 130,000 miles on the clock and never had any problems like this. Like the 'clicking' axles the motors seem to be a weak point.
Bought my first Z (been saving up forever for one
) and after a few months the driver-side window started acting up. It's gotten to the point where I don't even try to put it down anymore (or can't).
Came here looking for some clues and I'm both pleased (guides and advice) and disappointed (sucks that it's so common) to see how many other people have similar problems.
The car is an '08 350z with just 14k miles on it, so I'm bummed that it's already having window motor problems.
Looks like I'll be spending some time reading up a bit more on the different things people have tried and coming up with a plan for working my window.
It's kind of embarrassing every time I pull into a parking garage, tollbooth, etc and have to open the door to grab tickets, etc.

Yeah, I had to open up my door once, and that was enough for me. I hate having embarrassing things wrong with my car. I need to do my passenger side motor at some point. Just putting it off because it's not broken yet, just slow, heh.
To the OP, many thanks for this, fixed both my drivers and passenger window!
1 issue though, the passenger window has that weird thing were if you press the auto-up button to shut the window, it will go all the way up then half way down again. When I open the door as well it doesn't go down slightly then up again when I close it.
Now, I know that there is a reset switch guide, but my 2003 350 doesn't have said button! Instead it's just a hole, this is the same for both windows (but drivers window has no problem).
Does a 2003 350 have the reset button elsewhere or is there another way of resetting the passenger window only?
Many thanks.

I have an '03 and I have the reset button on the driver side. Haven't checked the passenger side, but it's supposed to have one. It sounds like someone put remanufactured motors in there without buttons...
Could try the 3rd response in this post, I have no idea but a couple responded that it worked for them. I have NOT tried this, I reset mine with the button after rebuilding it (And for some reason have had to reset it like 3 times now). https://my350z.com/forum/maintenance...dow-motor.html
Give vo7848 a gold star for entering this onto the site. It's the most comprehensive pictorial presentation as to how to fix a faulty motor i've seen and i've been searching, UK, Canadian and all other English language sites for weeks. A lot of the other sites give part of the detail but seem to miss out the most important instructions/pictures rendering instructions at best confusing, at worst unusable. Thank you again.
For those with the 07-09 350z our inside panel is different from the 03-06 Zs shown in the original thread. Use this link to see how we remove the panel. Seems easier then the 03-06 Z's so that is good news.
I did my driver today and the mechanics under the panel seems the same as the earlier models. Window works great for now!

Wow what a comprehensive guide, i could almost have been looking over your shoulder whilst you were doing it. For that sir i thank you. I was lucky enough to get my drivers door done under warranty but have noticed that the passenger window is starting to get slower and slower as it winds down. I wouldn't have noticed it if it weren't for the new motor. My warranty has since run out and i was dreading trying to take it to bits with no guide, but thanks to your brilliant guide i can attack it with confidence. THANK YOU.
Hello there...John here =))
I just signed up to this forum to see if I could find a little more tech info regarding the pwr window systems on these Z's.
A little background about me. I'm a 35 year tech that's worked on a lot of computer controls & electrical systems on pretty much anything. Worked for GM for many years & then went on to open my own place for 11 years. Taught at Snap On Technical Training for about 10 years teaching driveability diagnosis, yadda, yadda, yadda. I guess what I'm saying is....I'm no dummy when it comes to diagnostics. I work for the Fire Dept now as a mechanic.
Now....I'm doing this for my girlfriends son who has no money, so I'm trying to help him out.
The car is an 03 Z & the passenger side window is inop. The window is sitting about 1/2-3/4 inch down & doesn't respond to hitting the door. Now, I've gotten a factory schematic & ck'd all the inputs & outputs, grounds, etc to the passenger side switch. The only thing I haven't look at is the digital signal (power window serial link) from the body control module to the passenger side window switch. I've swapped out the switch w/a good used one & same with the motor, still no operation. Can a grounded serial data link cause the window to not operate? I haven't whipped out my lab scope yet to ck to see if there is digital talk on the line, but I'm starting to think this might be an issue seeing how in the factory schematic shows a digital line out on pin 16 to the switch, then from the switch out on pin 12 to the "encoder" on the motor . I don't have a Consult, otherwise I would have scanned the body control module by now. Any insight into how the system works would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

When replacing my motor I pulled all of the wires out of that white sub switch on the passenger side. My question is, while someone is replacing the motor do you think you could write me up a dummy schematic and tell me what colors go into what recepticle/hole? Ex/ starting from top left hole one receives white, and hole two recieves brown etc.. I would much appreciate it.
I have an 03btw, idk if there's a diff in years.

Here's a schematic I drew. Just waiting for the pics to upload from my iphone of what it looks like all wired in. The little square at the top of the connector is the locking tab & its a view from the backside of the connector. Good luck.
