My new tranny just came in, but the tech is on vacation.... oh well, hopefully I will get it put in next week. I'm thinkin about getting an aftermarket clutch/flywheel put in while he's got the tranny out. (I know the tech personally and am pretty sure he'd be cool w/ it, but won't know for sure til he gets back). I'm gonna search for suggested brands

Is it the First 009 Tranny?? I was wondering how many 009 trannies needed to be replaced or is that "the Fix" I'm on my 3rd tranny, no 009 has been in the car though.

but you're NOT out of the warranty period. 5yr/60k miles powertrain. Maybe giving you problems because of your mods??

Maybe problems from my mods, but I don't drive the car too hard. Did the proper break in procedure on the second tranny. Who knows. I also have been told its my clutch and flywheel. The thing is my tranny is way too noisy at a stop, and the noise progressivly keeps getting louder and louder.

Thumbs up

I can tell you that the problem tranny, is a problem tranny....

I had the problem, and Performance Nissan replaced it straight away....

I then got the JWT Flywheel and Nismo clutch, and beat the hell out of the car that way, no problems....

I got my APS TT, thinking the clutch/flywheel combo would hold through 400whp, it didn't make it past 325....

I then had to get the RPS Turbo Clutch / Segmented Lightened Flywheel, and I have AT LEAST 415 at the wheel and I have been tracking, dragging, and daily flogging the car, and the tranny is still holding.

I will also add that my rear end has held up, better than most as well, and it's the stock VLSD, I've changed out the oil 3 times, and each time the discs look good and there is literraly NO PARTICALS in there....

What I have been doing is melting those rubber bushings though....

The replacement trans has been perfect, and it has been through 25K hellish miles, plus 2 days of dragging (somewhere between 50-70 launches total), a dozen track days on at least half of those putting on between 100-200 miles per track day....

Now I'm sure that I've said all of this, my trans, rear, clutch, and flywheel, and most likely my motor are all going to blow....

BUT I CAN TELL YOU IT HAS BEEN WELL WORTH IT AND ONE HELL OF A RIDE! AND AT THIS POINT YOU WONT GET ANY COMPLAINTS FROM ME ON ANY OF IT.

(can I borrow 20K?)

Hey though I'd chime in...I have an 03 6mt, I kept the engine mods down till the 36,000 mark. After that I went out and got a Vortec S/C tuner kit, CJM return fuel lines, 255 walbro fuel pump, RC 440cc injectors,Gready E-manage ect ect......

Long story short 1mo 500mi later, 5th gear now grinds at high rpm..WTF

I'm sure that when I take the car over to nissan dealership on Monday, and they see the S/C they will say "NO GO" void due to engine mods!!!!! O well I'll try to change the trany oil to a thicker grade and wait till I can take it down and have it rebuild....oh well

I was thinking the same thing. It looks like they are not going to make the supra now, so now I might be concidering a sti myself.

I am on my seond tranny and it seems to shift worse than the last one. I have driven this one for ~12k and its only gotten worse. I have to push pretty hard to get it into gear and if I change gears while coasting and the clutch is all the way in it feels and sounds like its clipping a gear. Like when a syncro is not doing its job or is going out.

Once I get my other car running I am going to take it to niisan and hope they replace the gearbox. I will request a the latest box. I thought about waiting till the next years Z comes out, hoping the gearbox gets improved more so.

Is the '06 model gearbox that much better? I thought about test driving one to see what the tranny was like to determine if its even worth my time to fool around with nissan.

It sucks that I mostly DD my Z and most of the miles are highway miles and the gearbox still seems to crap out on me....
