Grinding Noise
So this only happens sometimes. When i start the car with the clutch pressed in all the way like usual, it just makes a grinding noise and the car dosnt turn over.
Then i try again and it work. Happens like 2 out of 10 times.
any ideas? is my clutch pedal messed up? do i need to adjust it so its pressed in more or pressed out less?
help~

The grinding sound could be the starter solenoid cycling in and out when the load on the battery causes the voltage to drop too much. Usually happens with a weak battery, but could also be a bad connection in the circuit carrying power to the starter or on the battery ground cable.
You may also have a bad starter with a short on part of the armature. Whenever the the starter motor stops in that position, you'll have the problem. Repeated attempts to start the car may shift the armature just enough to pick up a spot that works OK.

Once you do get the car started up and idling, bump the key forward like you are going to start it again for just a second and listen if that is the original grinding sound. If it is....starter problem.

Here's a video you can compare your sound to:

The sound of the solenoid is much lower frequency, but I couldn't find a video.

yes i think it is the starter. cause seems to be making the same noise.
so all i need to do is replace the starter?
also not sure but i read around but does it have anything to do with flywheel?
"Sounds to me like the pinion on the starter Bendix is grinding on the ring gear on the flywheel. You may have a several damaged teeth on the flywheel"

Yes, the starter engages the teeth on the ring gear, and it may in fact be damaged teeth on the ring gear causing the problem. The ring gear is welded to the flywheel. If replacing the starter doesn't cure the problem, you'll have to have the transmission dropped to inspect the ring gear.
You can get the service manual to see what's involved in replacing the starter. You'll need to get the car on a lift or jack stands, but it doesn't look too hard for a competent DIYer to do.
