Default Horn sound changed randomly

Hi guys!

I've got a Silver 2003 Nissan 350Z Touring model. It has 15,000 miles on it, so it's fairly new and I wouldn't really expect anything to break on it unless I did something stupid. (Which I don't think I did!)

Whenever I use my remote lock button, it makes the "honk" noise, and the car locks. That's great. But, ever since I bought the car, it HONKED. Now, it's kinda like "pip". Like, it became much less intimidating, and almost sounds like a blown speaker (in comparison).

Obviously the horn isn't a speaker - I was just comparing it to how it sounded before!

Any ideas? I haven't tried pushing the horn manually yet. I'll do that once I'm out of work. It's been going on for about a week now, and it has been raining alot lately.
EDIT: I tried pushing the horn manually. Same odd sound.

Thanks!

When water got in my horn, it made that same sound. Just wait till it dries out and it should go back to normal.

do0d, honk the horn. Does it sound odd? If not, you're golden and you what is wrong.

Modern car horns are in pairs and create a harmonizing effect. It could be that maybe one of the two isn't funtioning and the remaining horn would thus sound quiet and wimpy on its own... just a possibility.

Thanks for your input guys! I think this may be what's happening.. It's been about a week and the horn still sounds like a pipsqueak.

My next question would be.. How would I confirm this? Should I buy two new JDM horns and install them? Or.. What if the electrical portion has failed? What's the most efficient way to handle this situation?

If you've got a keen ear, you can hear whether or not there are two horns blowing. If it sounds like a harmony, then both horns are operating. If the sound is totally monotonal, then one is out.
I'm not an expert on horns but I believe the two horns share the same fuse so if it's electrical, it would be a damaged wire between the horn and the fuse but if that were the case, I would think that might have tripped the fuse but like I said, I'm not a horn expert. If it's the horn itself, then you'll need to replace it.
The horns are located behind the front bumper and I'm pretty sure you're only going to get at them by removing the bumper, thus making this a bit of an endeavor. You're going to need to remove the bumper anyway just to inspect the horns to see if the problem is in fact there.

Long story short.... I'd take to the dealer or a shop you know and trust. Ask the Nissan mechanic about what the problem could be before you commit to paying them to work on it. He should have a better idea than me.
Let us know what happens and good luck. I hope I've been helpful.
