Default Engine Noise, Pulleys or belt ?

Whats up guys,

I've had this noise for about two weeks now, and it is only getting worse. Last week I took it for an oil change at the Stealership, where they allegedly check the belts, so according to them the belts seem fine, but then again they probably take a look at them and look away. The noise never fails to occur when I start it cold, sometimes it even occurs on a hot start, and very rarely when I'm at a stop light. I still believe it is a belt, or maybe even a pulley, but wanted to know what you guys thought. Thanks a lot.

I posted a video on YouTube

That high pitched squeal is from your accessory belt. It's loose and may have stretched, or needs adjustment. How many miles on your car and how long ago did you replace the accessory belt?

Sounds like a bad bearing in an idler pulley to me. I hear more of a scraping.

Thanks for posting the vid, I have the exact same thing going on right now. Replacing the belts didn't do anything so I'm looking to replace my pulleys soon. If I can do it soon enough I'll try to remember to post results.

Thanks, I will check. The car is a 2004 with 114k miles, I bought 2 years ago and this is the first time that she ask for something different than oil change.

Wow- that is a long time to go without a belt change. Unless there were any service records, I'd assume NONE of the major service items have been done. Check the FSM for details on the other items that also need to be changed before your Z grinds to a halt.

Thanks, the car comes with 2 idler pulleys, here is the diagram. How can I determine which one is that causing the noise ?

Before you do anything else, try replacing the accessory belt, properly adjust the tension and see if that stops the squeal! Have you read the FSM?

Dkmura, by the accesory belt do you mean the idler pulley ?

The composite belt that runs across the front of your engine is an accessory belt. It uses engine power to run things like your alternator, a/c compressor, etc. The FSM is the factory service manual and every Z owner should at least examine it, so they have a basic understanding of their vehicle. In you case, it shows how the belt should be routed and tensioned the proper amount (eliminates squeal).
