Default Help please - transmission issues

So I just bought an 03 z that ran pretty good for the day I had it.( one point it was throwing a misfire code that went away). Well while I was driving I tried to shift into 3rd and the car wouldn't let me and the pedal was stuck. I had to power shift the way home which was close. So at first the pedal wouldn't even alow me to get into gear, but now it does but when I try to release the clutch an awful noise comes, like a broken power steering pump. And maybe I'm crazy but I smell burning. I'm assuming the slave and master cylinders, btw the clutch goes up and down now but it's very sticky

The noise sounds like it could be the throwout bearing. Your assumptions on the slave and master cylinders are certainly a good place to start for the sticky pedal.

Can you get a video of the noise? The throw out bearing is always a cause of noise with the z, it's normal.

However the clutch pedal could be those isssyes you noted. I would check the engine with a scanner to see if there are any codes pending.

Yes I test drove it, it had the 3rd gear grind but it wasn't too bad. The car ran perfectly fine until this happened. No when I release the clutch in first the car makes a sort of grinding sound, but not like I'm used to hearing with gears ? Im just hoping I don't need a new tranny

Have you tried draining the tranny and examining what's on the magnetic plug as well as what sits on top of the drained fluid. Try refilling with a quality lubricant like Redline MT85, which meets the viscoity requirements of our six-speed trannys.

But I'm also guessing you'll need to drop the tranny and take a close look at the slave, release bearing and clutch/flywheel. There's no getting around it if you want to repair it the right way.

Noise when you have the pedal pressed in (clutch disengaged) is a throwout bearing. Noise when releasing the pedal (engaging the clutch) would indicate a problem with the clutch itself or worse the transmission.
