Attn: Z owners - Alignment Issues - Please Read (moderators included)
I am interested in the story as well hopefully they will go more in depth with the story. I am wondering how far this issue goes because at the moment I plan on getting a 2006 model.
CBS 2 Investigates: Kirstin Cole uncovers major problems with a popular car.

The name of the story is above. Even I had a hard time locating it.

It was there earlier this afternoon, but it looks like they removed the link on their site. Hope this link works, I copied this from my history section.

I just purchased a 2005 Enthusiast model and one of the first questions I asked was, "Has this problem been fixed in the newer models?" And of course they said yes.
But after hearing this report, is this a problem with the design of the car itself or just the earlier model years?

Does anyone know? Because I am asking the same thing?

As far as nissan's claim that they fixed it on the 05 miodels, they claim(to this day) that they fixed it on the 04's too. This obviously isn't the case. I have an 04 with 4800 miles on the tires, the noise is just starting to develop, you can feel the feathering has started, interestingly my noise is more noticeable in the 40 - 60mph range instead of the 30mph or below most experience.
The noise is not bothersome at all yet, but lets see in another 3K or so. It does seem that not everyone gets the tire roar, some have claimed they have almost 20K on tires and no noise.
All that to say I doubt Nissan fixed anything other than adjusting some factory alignment settings which might delay the problem from showing up. The real question is what the likely hood your particular vehicle will exhibit the problem. In the meantime if you really want to get the car, just go in knowing you may be forced to drop an extra $400 - $800/year on front tires depending on how much you drive.
Otherwise you will have to wait several more months to see if the boards start filling up with 05 owners complaints too. There is no official word out there that the car has really been fixed, other than what Nissan says and we already know that means nothing.

Greetings,
The Idiots working at the Nissan dealership service dept. on Bee Ridge Road in Sarasota are going to cause me to trade my 04’ z in on a different brand car at a better dealership. Pardon my words but I am upset about this.
I took my car in for it’s 1st routine check up with 3k miles on it. The service person (Lucy) said that I needed a front end alignment and the tires were showing abnormal wear for a car with 3k miles on it. When I brought it in for it’s alignment on its scheduled date, today 5-10-05. Lucy, my service person, told me they will look at it and see if it needs an alignment for $65.00.
Why did she tell me it need one if they have to check it? Also I need to know why, if my car does not need the alignment after they check. They are still going to charge me! This is not customer service.
And further more Why is this not covered under Factory Warranty when this is a known problem at the Factory on these cars especially in the 03’ model. I only have 3k miles on the car for crying out loud, and it is undoubtedly not the rims or tires that have caused this problem. This is nothing more than standard Factory mistakes that happens with all new cars and In Nissans fairness, They have been correcting the problem in other cases which is documented. Why am I having trouble getting mine correct?
All I am asking is the re-align the front end as need to correct the Factory Problem.
New:
I just talked to Lee the Service manager and he tried to explain to me that the only wheels ever that can be used on the Z models are factory Or they will wear irregularly. That is crap. They don’t race these cars with factory rims & tires. They wont fix the problem and they are just going to blame it on aftermarket wheels even though a friend of mine who has the same car with more miles and a front end problem, just got his fixed under factory warranty. They even replaced his tires 4 free!

I watched that video and that is BS. I have an 04 and my tires were completely gone at 10k.
They replaced them and re-aligned the front and told me if it happened again that it was my problem. That is BS!!!!!!!!!!
I am NOT going to replace my tires every 10k miles. Nor, will i go in every 3-4K miles and pay for an alignment.
I guess i'll have to read this whole thread to find out what i can do about it.

The best thing i can say is to do what i plan on doing. Im buying either the 350EVO or kinetix camber arms (front and rear) with a new set of toe arms for rear and buying the S-tune suspension. There are many combinations that you can do to improve your suspension and fix this problem..or you can trade your car in..lol..good luck.i can feel your pain..but try and be patient.
