I just noticed a chip and concurrent rusting on my front driver side quarter panel. Before (in the past), I would sand around the area, which would get some of the surrounding paint as well in order to eliminate all of the rust. Now that this is the Z, I wanted to get some advice from board experts about DIY recommendations about how to alleviate this problem. I'd rather not pay to get if fixed, if there is something that I can do about it (since the chip is pretty small). The affected area is not completely rusted, but the beginnings of rust are occuring. Thanks
You have to neutralize the rust. I think autozone or parts america sells a rust neutralizer (comes in a white bottle I believe. It's liquid) in their paint section. If not, try the section with the aircraft paint remover and sanding stuff.
Apply a little of that with a q-tip.

get a fiberglass sanding pen(made by 3M) to remove the rust and use some touch paint. You can also try something like Langka blob remover. It works well, but will not be a *perfect* paint job.

Thanks n8vz, I bought some Bondo Rust Remover today, did the job nicely. Put some touch-up paint on, doesn't look the best, but I feel a whole LOT better that the chip and rust are gone

It's now bookmarked. My beater has pretty sizeable rust spots... time to clean those up as well
