Angry What do you guys do about emissions??

What do you guys in MD with test-pipes, or Turbonetics kits (the catless one), or any guys with test-pipes do when it comes to emissions? I have swapped my test pipes on and off 3 times now, and currently Im running catless. I have emissions September 22, and I really dont feel like going through this install again-especially since I have a Turbo kit I will be installling over the next month or so-its all coming out anyway. I know somebody has to have a loop hole or something, COUGH:hookup:COUGH. A few yeards ago I took a lowered Ford probe to spin the rollers and they told me it was to low, so I got a 2 year extension. Now they have the OBDII readings, and they check for CEL's, so part of me wants to just go and see if it somehow passes, but Im worried about the visual test. If they see Im running test pipes how big is the fine? BTW-if anybody knows something and wishes not to share on the board hit me up via PM. TIA....

i didnt know they did a visual inspection/test in VA...i thought that was a CA thing?!?! Hence why those w/ hi flows pass...since there's no visual. ive heard anything OTHER than STOCK cats is illegal, its just that in other states they dont do visuals as to why ppl w/ hi flows can pass....not 100% though...

As you mentioned, the VEAP test for your car is an OBDII read out. But that’s not the only test. If the OBDII history is “suspicious,” the technician will run a sniff test.

Keep in mind that the technicians are not mechanics, nor are they cops: they just want to get you in-and-out, and get a pay check.

I don't think there is a fine. I may be wrong, but I think the worst thing they can do to you is write you a repair order. They'll probably just give you an extention and tell you to come back, IF they even bother to look. Is your car throwing any codes?

No my car is not throwing any codes, Ive never seen the CEL in the Z. The only reason I was kinda worried is because my buddy who received the 2 year extension because his car was too low and they didnt feel like driving it over the rollers to the OBD inspection station told me they did look under his car and make sure he had a cat. At that point they gave him the extension. He thinks there is a hefty fine those people could give you if you dont pass the visual. If they didnt see a cat could they notify the MVA and maybe they fine you? If this test is just a CEL check then Ill be fine, like I said its the visual Im worried about....thanks for the feedback guys.

Oh really? Thats good to know. So worst case is they dont see cats then what? Do they fail me or tell me to come back? BEst case they plug my car into OBD port, see I have no CEL and let me go.

That's really interesting. I would think given that it's a violation of Federal law to remove, replace or tamper with cats on a vehicle with less than 50K miles on it, the state would be a little more active. Good to know though.

They are mostly young guys who will be more impressed by the vehicle than really worrying about looking underneath of it. They are there for a paycheck and not much of anything else. If it's an older guy I'd be a little more concerned about visual inspection...usually if you bother to give them the time of day and rap with them a few minutes you are "cool" and they'll let you slide on most anything. My .02.
