Good lord. What would those even go on? They look like tires for the newest batmobile.

Random question but anyone know anyone into Dodge Magnums that may frequent their forums? There is a gentleman who owes me a decent chunk of money, lives in Dallas still, who frequents them apparently now and I would like to put the word out of what he did. Never paying for a car. Just kind of a heads up type thing.

Bummer Lucky, I hope you get your money from him.

Sucks that people would runaway from their responsibilities and leave others to endure the loss.

So from the other post I am guessing this is on your rear.

I would jack up both sides of the car take off the wheel and start the car, put it in gear and let the hub spin. That will let you take a good look and hopefully pin point the problem.

You shouldn't have a grinding sound driving around, and if it is in your brakes, it should change when the brakes are applied.

Any chance its the bearing grinding and not the brakes?

Good luck

A buddy told me to leave the car up and wiggle the wheel. No play in it. He said it's an easy way to check the bearing. I also thought it was odd the noise changed when applying the brakes. Ug.

Replaced the slides tonight, took it all apart again, since one of the bolts was starting to get rounded and didn't want to have an issue later. Going to warm them up and see if that helps at all. Also checked the shield to see if maybe it bent at all. Just checked the edges and was equal all around the rotor.

I would think the sound would change a lot if it was just a pad hanging or dragging when you apply the brakes.

I don't think you'll notice anything about the bearing by just wigging the wheel. They can feel tight and still have a bearing go bad. At least that is my front wheel bearing experience.

Goes from a sort of lighter dragging, intermittent noise almost to like a solid dragging sound. Very odd. Parking brake seems okay, thought at first maybe it was sticking but I doubt it. Piston compresses, again, so I don't THINK it is an issue with that.

Just very odd.

One other thing you could check is the the temperature of the brake assembly after driving. If a pad or emergency brake is dragging you'll have a lot more heat compared to the other side.

I know something is up as the other day I did smell something coming from that corner. It has yet to come back at this point.

When I adjusted my E-brake and the shoe wasn't seated right...it heated the heck out of the rotor hub....so I would drive around for a few minutes and then do what Steidz says and measure the temp.

Mine was hotter than coal !
