Default '08 HR Roadster

Bought new in July '09. Just hit 19K. No issues AT ALL! ('cept those trash, low wear rated "SLIPTENZAs" are at the wear bar already - I HATE those tires - wheels and T1R's are a coming......)

other than wearing fast (mine were done at 7k) the re050a's that come stock on 07's + are great tires, considerably better than t1r's. the re050a tire is one of the best street tires available...

T1-Rs aren't bad tires.. i'm running 255/285s front and rear, but I do have to agree that RE050as are stickier size for size.. but they are heavy *** tires.

I have an 08Z bought in July 2008. Hitting 36K soon. Running strong. Just got a bunch of cosmetic fixes under warranty, and also had the fix for the passenger airbags. Still loving the car!

didn't say the t1r is a bad tire, just that it sounded like the guy i quoted was trying to say that the t1r's are better than the re050a's, which they are not...

I WAS saying that and they are in just the way I said it - WEAR. Potenza R050A's have a - to me - terrible wear rating. Just 140 on our stock tires. T1R's are a more resonable, but again low, 280. BTW - who says that R050A's are "sticker". Your own butt tire test? They both have a AA traction rating. Please explain and cite your information.....(you sponsered by Bridgestone?).

WAIT - more fuel to the fire. I was wrong above. The R050A, according to TireRack Specs, has a even WORSE traction rating than the T1R. That is an A to the T1R's AA which means:

Traction
Grades Asphalt g force Concrete g force
AA Above 0.54 0.41
A Above 0.47 0.35

And that's what my 'butt' dyno feels between the two.

lol, i wish i was sponsored by bridgestone... wear, yes, the t1r is better, but its common knowledge that faster wearing tire typically (not always) are better gripping tires.

as for my proof, i was at an autox once back when my car was still bone stock, and there was another stock 07 z there but with the t1r tires (with 245's all around). i was about .5 sec faster for 4 runs, and on the 5th run, we decided to switch cars, and i ran about .75 sec slower in the other guys car. the other guy ran about a second better than my best in my car... other than the times, the t1r's have a pretty soft shoulder, you can feel the tire roll over. the other guy was also telling me that he didn't like the the t1r's vs the re050a's.

and official tire ratings never tell the whole story...

I hear you! You give a very good example. However, due to me only driving "briskly" on mountain/curvy backroads, just my personal opinion, I really like the T1R better than the R050A. The Uniform Tire Quality Grade (UTQG) ratings helped me out though....

Now to get back to the real reason for this thread.

^^^ Man! Seems this is not typical but your miles are intense! My last '08 ZR had about 49K without any of the above issues. EXCEPT this one I just got on my current ZR:

1) "Stuck" speedometer (needle stays at a higher speed until it gets software reset and goes back to normal). My last '08 did it on rare occasions and a '06 I had. Seems to happen in colder 40's and 50's temps in the morning.

2) Today for first time had TPMS idiot light flashing and went solid a couple of times then went away. No tire pressure issues though. Will see dealer if it keeps occuring.

go drive you car at an autox or real track, you'll be surprised how little you actually push a car on a "brisk" drive on a mountain road... it really is a night and day difference. back road drives became somewhat boring and mundane after my first autox

if someone claims that they drive as fast on a back road as they do at the track/autox, they belong to one of the following 3 groups

a. they're lying have have never actually been to the track
b. they're pathetically slow at the track
c. they're absolutely insane and put they're own and other's life at risk, nobody, and i mean nobody has any business driving that fast on a public road
