Default Stock 07 tires question (noob)....

So i know that the stock wheels and tires sizes on my 07 are 225/45/18 which are 8" widein front, and 245/45/18 and 8.5" wide......now if i want to keep the stock wheels, was wondering if you could go with a wider width tire for front and rear while keeping the stock wheels......*put on flame suit.....total 100% noob, and don't really understand the wheels/tires yet since i've just started to do my research....main purpose is for better gripping for road courses.....

The popular setup for stock wheels to track with is 245/40 front and 255/40 rear, most swap to wider wheels for much wider rubber.

I have 245-40 up upfront and 275-40 in the rear on the stock wheels.

You can, but it will handle like sh#t. If your trying to be cheap for tracking , just buy a pair of 9.5 inch rear wheels and run the stock rear wheels in the front.
Since your just learning about tracking your car the combo i said is just fine, grab some Falken 615's and have fun. When they wear out, worry about wider wheels and tires then.

what widths and tires are you running? just curious and starting my research...eventually i'll be going out to willow springs this summer, so like to get some stickier and slightly wider tires....

Just a quick suggestion , don't listen to the people who don't track their cars. BTW 275 and 245 is the width of the tires. 245's fit perfect on the front, but the rear wheels are to narrow to run 275's without a lot of sidewall flex, you will lose more traction than in cornering by running a tire that wide on a narrow wheel.
Also you dont want to change your stagger that much, running that wide of a rear tire with a 245 front will also make the car push worse in the corners. Our cars plow bad in the corners in stock trim.

ok, engine stuff i'm good with, and i've worked on all my cars before....but never bothered to learn about the z's wheels till now.....basically all i'm looking for is more grip in the stock tires.....do a lot of mountain/road course driving, and eager to get onto the track this summer.....any suggestions?

The question is asked at least once each week. Getting old.
