Without going into too much detail, following H.S. (which I graduated from with a B average), I served my country for 6 years as a helicopter flight engineer, and now (still without a college degree (my flight schedule made college an impossibility)) I make 6-figures as a network engineer for a major computer company. Don't get me wrong here, I don't mean to 'toot my own horn', but you need to understand that some of us are and have been expected to do for ourselves from an early age. The thought of getting a 30K car in return for good grades was ridiculous and dare I say almost insulting.
guess thats where we differ, never called your parents a bad parent. That has nothing to do with having faith in kids, you seem to put alot of faith into kids making the right decisions on thier own and then turn around and say they are immature, ungrateful, and stupid. I am not insulting you, you obviously did something right in life to get that car of yours (which is sweet btw) but to look down on teens with nice cars is pretty dumb in itself. And if you think 350z is rediculous, there are MUCH MUCH nicer cars out there. And why do you care if a kid gets a nice car at a young age...its just a car...are you guys (not you Kcobean but just a "you" in general) so centralized on material things that you think its that terrible for a teen to have a 30 thousand dollar car? Maybe thier parents are rich and money isnt that much of an issue to them....thats not always a bad thing in a country time when money seems to be the driving force for everything anyone does. Life is short and you only live once, so for a parent to want the best for thier kid isnt always a bad thing, believe me, there are plenty of "kids" out there who appreciate the things thier parents did alot. There are snobs out there, but there are ******** adults too, who think just because they lived longer that they know more and that just cause they "didnt make 55 grand a year" that NO one has any poitn to saying that they are confident they will. Like i said, starting salary has alot to do with major too, none of you guys who say you make 25 grand and spent months looking for a job have listed your major.

Back to Kcobean, yes i know alot of you have been living by your own means for a while and i do respect that. In no way am i trying to demean the fact that you did in fact earn your way up to a 6 figure job without college (my parents dont have a college degree as well, immigrated from Korea and worked thier asses off); you definetly deserve your car and anything you buy with your money. INCLUDING (Im not going to say you will) buying your kids some nice things. Its your money and you can do w/e the hell you want with it. Some people put thier happiness in getting things for thier children that they didnt have, some dont, its what makes us human.

Im just trying to say might want to know the kid behind the wheel before assuming things, not all the kids that have nice cars are *****es and cried to mommy and daddy for thier stuff. We all own 350zs and thats what this forum is about. I for one love it when i see old dudes driving 350zs and wave at them all the time, and you know what, they wave back, they dont judge and flip me off.

and to the guy who said you can work while in school, what kinda classes did oyu take?! LOL id love that much free time on my hands.

also to the guy who said i called him dumb...uhh when did i call you dumb. You yourself graduated and couldnt find a job so you think no one can? Your one case dude...

So now i am dumb, snob, ******** because i said to prepare yourself that you might not make what you think. The problem with people your age is that you don't know how to take advice. I was the same way, so no worries. I make plenty now and most tiimes the average salary regardless of major comes from the second job not the first entry level job. My major was political science which had a huge "average" salary which I now make much more than. But I know people with just about every major you can think of and some of them got great high paying jobs coming out of college and some didn't. The poster was saying f-you i am going to college and will have a porsche after i graduate cause I got a 4.0. I was just pointing out that he better start planning in case that doesn't happen cause the odds are against you. Hell you are still a freshman, the odds of you graduating with the same major you are in now are against you. And FYI, very few students coming out right now get great jobs, the job market in most fields is dry.

BTW, the average salary for your major is 51k not 65k as per UVA's website. See i am right you are already 14k off

Seriously, learn to read. I never said that you kids wouldn't find jobs, and I did find a job. Read posts before you post. I thought UVA kids were smart. Man, take some advice.

theres no real point arguing cause everything thinks they are right, iu said 65 was the avg from UVA. Also, last I checked Polt Sci majors dont have a high avg starting, but I could be wrong on that one. The highest i think was math then engr econ was up there as well. I agree with you lax that you say statistics arent everything and yea that kid with the 4.0 shouldnt be making claims he can get a porsche out of college and should start preparing for "life without a porsche" Also im a second year not a first, i already declared the major and im happy with my choice. Sorry i miswrote the whole "couldnt get a job" thing i meant had trouble at first finding a job. but at the same time i can say that i know people who have had no trouble getting a job and are making good money. Its all hearsay imo. But for you to say you "thought UVA" kids were smart, so your calling ME dumb now huh...haha seems liek youve stooped down to "kid" level bro. Im not trying to pick a fight, just throwing my opinions out there.

There's the typical teenager we know and love....Couldn't possibly learn anything from us could you (like maybe how to spell the words you're trying to use to insult us). Thanks for contributing nothing to the conversation.

Too answer the original post, teenagers in general are very dangerous drivers and you've got to be the dumbest mother****er on the planet to think that a Z is a good thing for your kid to start out with. That said, I can't really knock some teenager if their parents buy them a Z, because I wouldn't have complained in any way if my parents had bought me a twin turbo 300ZX, which was new when I was in high school. It's kind of like when that high school kid who was banging his hot teacher last year, you've gotta fault the adult who should know better.

And yes, if you're a teenager and your dad bought you a Z, I am saying he's a dumb mother****er and it's too bad that you've had the misfortune of inheriting his DNA. No offense.

It rubs the lotion on its skin, or else it gets the hose again.

You're right. Your dad would have said, "son, if you read this thread, I'll buy you a new 350z". I guess we need to sugar-coat things for you.

Actually I quoted you directly, so yes you did, but it's fine.

That has nothing to do with having faith in kids, you seem to put alot of faith into kids making the right decisions on thier own and then turn around and say they are immature, ungrateful, and stupid.
You should re-read my post. Never did I call "kids" immature, ungrateful OR stupid. Inexperienced, narrow-viewed and ignorant maybe (and I mean ignorant as in 'un-knowing', not 'stupid', there is a BIG difference). I have a buddy here in VA who is 18 and about to buy his Z completely on his own with about half of the cost as a down payment, every penny of which he's earned as a W2 employee (none of this '$100/week for keeping your room clean' crap). I hope my son grows up with the vision, discipline and will to achieve his goals like my buddy has done.

I am not insulting you, you obviously did something right in life to get that car of yours (which is sweet btw) but to look down on teens with nice cars is pretty dumb in itself.
I don't look down on anyone because they have a nice car until they try (through whatever (usually transparent) means) to brag that they are young with a sports car that they didn't earn. If you're young and you are paying for it (financially, not with your yippee skippy good grades), that's great. If you didn't earn it, then don't be arrogant and bring up your age because owning the car isn't your accomplishment, it's your parents' and you have no right to brag (not YOU you, you know what I mean).

And if you think 350z is rediculous, there are MUCH MUCH nicer cars out there. And why do you care if a kid gets a nice car at a young age...its just a car
Of course there are nicer cars which are even less obtainable by teenage earning power. A teenager who 'owns' one should be even more careful about boasting about 'his' car.

There are snobs out there, but there are ******** adults too, who think just because they lived longer that they know more
Like it or not, experience comes from doing. Being a teenager implies that you have a very small sphere of influence and responsibility in your life, and 'responsibility' has a very limited meaning. That's not a bad thing, it's just part of the cycle of life. (and yes, there is always an exception to every rule.) We 'older folks' (and to clarify, I'm only 33) have had to do and learn things you haven't had to do or learn yet. We have a different view of the world because we've lived in it without a parental safety net, which believe it or not greatly changes how you look at the world. Again, not a bad thing, just the way it goes. Insisting that you're some uber-teenager who somehow has bypassed all the lessons the rest of us learned the hard way and gone straight to knowledgeable is proof that you're a teenager. See how this goes? (Again, not YOU you...just in general)

i see old dudes driving 350zs and wave at them all the time, and you know what, they wave back, they dont judge and flip me off.
There's a difference between being an adult and being a rude *****. I've met some teenagers who would just as soon flip you the bird from the window of their daddy-purchased vehicle as give you the time of day. I on the other hand have spent hours talking with a couple of high school kids who were taking pictures of my car with their camera phones one day when I came out of the grocery store. Basically you hit it right on the head when you said that 'we all own 350Z's' and that's what this site is about. Don't (not you, but in general) degrade the experience with arrogance and other BS and we'll all get along fine.
