I agree, not all teenagers are bad drivers and some are mature enough to drive a Z.

You are right that the highest mortality is among teenage drivers and drivers over 80. Unfortunately you are not right that young drivers only kill themselves and that older drivers only kill others.

I think they were smart for acting as parent should but also realizing that spoiling a child is not a good thing. I appreciate what they have taught me and done for me and I believe they are indeed good parents. Thanks for reading. - Leif -

This is the only thing I am going to say. I am 20, bought my own car at 16 was a 96 tempo, when I was learning to drive I drove a 98 V8 thunderbird. Now I own a 2005 Focus ZX3, I am not going to side with either but just reading through some of these posts just made me mad at how our society percieves certain lifestyles. As for the teenagers I have learned that most of the time an older person is right, and usually know from experiance. I have learned a lot of things in my few years of life that I wish others could understand but most likely wont, because they arent open minded. They are just saying that a teenager is most likely to kill someone than an older person because A: They are more experianced and B: They arent going to go see how fast it will go the moment they get it. I have wanted a Z for a long time, and my time has almost come for me to get it. As for the older people, I know what it is like to have envy of someone who doesnt have to work for their car, or do anything for that matter. I grew up in a town that wasnt full of rich families, so the few who were, were always envied. They were also the 1st to kill themselves in the sports car their parents bought. I agree with both sides to some extent. I only wish that anyone who reads this will walk away with knowing, the world isnt all that bad, some kids do "grow up" it just sometimes takes a near death experiance. My best friends hit a tree in his new car while drunk. He was pronounced dead at the scene, and somehow was revived on the ride to the hospital. He was in a coma for about a week, now he has little to no short term memory, and has changed a lot. Like I said it sometimes takes that to change someone. Just dont let the action do it, take it from someone who has been through it already.

When I was 15 1/2 I bought a 1974 Pinto in 1975. It was a lease turn in. I worked for over a year to buy the car. Cutting grass, washing cars, hauling stuff, and my newspaper route. It is all that I could afford.

I do have a problem with parents that give their kids stuff without working for it, or maybe I am jealous that my parents didn't give me a car. I did learned from this experience to be a hard worker and appreciate what I bought.

Heck, my parents bought my sister a brand new car for her first car. I am still trying to get over that. I guess my parents like girls best.

The second year I traded it for a 1968 XR-7 GT Cougar that I wish I had today. Really nice car with the 390 motor in it.

I have always worked hard for everything I have gotten in life. I have scratched for each item I have bought.

Right now, I am out of work. I have worked all my life to get ahead. I can't seem to get anyone to give me a break. I have worked hard for everything. I have won many awards for my work, gained my degree late in life (parents would pay for sister education not for mine), certifications to increase my worth. Still no luck. Some people are just lucky I guess. Yeah, my parents have money and they have never given me a cent. I wouldn't have it any other way. I figure in the long run I'll turn out to be a better human being. Who really knows?

My only hope is that some day I will be able to get the car of my dreams. It's not a 350Z. The 350Z is a great car but not the cream of the crop.

I am older now and I do envy the kids that have rich parents that give them cars. I'm no better than them, they are no better than me. But, it still makes me sad.

However, it is only the truth that I say I do hate it when I see a 16 or 17 year old with the same car that it took me over 30 years to get.

I'm being honest about it at least......

people have been saying that kids shouldn't have fast cars since the horse and buggy days. hell they probably said it when some rich cattle baron in the 1800's bought his son a fast horse. my first car was a 1968 mustang/390 v8 my dad and i bought the car when i was 15 and let me tell you when i got my permit to drive everyone called my dad stupid for letting a kid drive such a fast car. i've had alot of fast cars in the past. and i would be a lier if i said that i've never raced on the street. or took what i was behind the wheel of to the limit. when my son turned 15 i tried to do the same with him. funny thing was the older muscle cars of my era didn't interest him. he wanted a banged up nissan pickup.

if your mommy and daddy can afford to buy their kids nice cars. then who cares
. whats the point of making money if you can buy things that will make your children happy.
and my .02 i think the 350z is more of a teenager car anyways. who looks better in the car. a 18-25 yr old. or a mid 40 yr old man. or even worst a 30-40 yr old woman. c'mon mang

Perhaps you are right. However, I still enjoy mine and I feel that I am still young at heart.

I can't leave this thread alone, and have to throw in my bit of insight.

I had friends at my high school and in college that were given nice cars. Some of them respected the car and took on the responsibility head-on, while others totalled the car when they got bored with it, as they knew that mommy and daddy would get them a new one. This has nothing to do with their age, as much as the environment they were raised in.

I wasn't given a nice new car when I turned 16, but I was given a car. It taught me a lot about responsibility, as well as what not to do in/with a car. If I would've had a faster, more powerful car, I probably would've gotten into trouble, but at least I would've learned something.

However, when you put other people in danger, that's when I have a problem. The posts that I read on here about people "racing around" on mountain roads and downshifting into corners for fast exit speeds on the street...now those are what worry me. I don't know who the people are that do this or what age bracket they fit into, but if you're risking the lives of your fellow drivers...THAT's what I have a problem with.

Ok, first and formost, we could all use a little more respect in this thread. Calling someone a dip**** or telling someone to shut up isn't going to make you seem to smart. Same would go for calling "us" "old-timers." The majority of this board is probally in their 20's. There are some members that are over 60 here, but regardless, there is no need to seperate everyone by age. I'm only 24, and I can honestly tell you, there is a huge change when you graduate college. Your outlook on life itself becomes much different from when you were with your friends singing Old-McDonald when another high school's cheerleaders stepped on the court at a basketball game.

Think about it for a second. If your 16, 17 you might not know exactly where we're comming from. But, on the other hand, it was only 8 years ago, I was getting my first car. So before you just dismiss everything an older person on here says, read their post, and think about it.

I really don't think anybody hates someone for having a 350z on this board. Afterall, what are we all here for? We all share the love for this great car.

I think, even if your 16, and act respectful for what you have, nobody will even tell that your 16. That would be true if your parents got you your car, or if you started a paper route at 13 and saved every penny to get a Z. Nobody likes the punk kid that comes on here shoots off his mouth about how great he has it.

Does any of it stem from jealousy? I'm sure some does. People save a lot of money and make some sacrifices just to put some extra money in the savings account before they get their Z. So why shouldn't everyone else? Is it fair that mommy and daddy get you a Z when all you accomplished in life to earn that Z is to simply not die? You got good grades as a sophmore in HS, you deserve a Z? Hell no! A nice dinner, sure. A car....no. For the people saying that their parents want their kid to graduate college, and think of their grades, what does having a Z have to do with any of that? My grades when I graduated college were just fine having a '91 Daytona and a '95 Regal(not at the same time).

I think the argument that since you didn't pay for it, you won't appreciate it as much is pretty much true. If you crack it up, and you didn't pay for it, what do you care? As far as you know, there will be another one that will come your way. Your parents might yell at you and what have you, but lets be honest, they'll cave and get you another new car. Safety isn't an issue. Any parent who thinks that.... Safety = 16yo + 300hp + Hot Car ...is crazy!

But for the OP, what kind of responses were you expecting? Nobody was going to sit here and say, "Your right, you've changed my view on life!" Yes, not everyone responded in a manner that they should have, but thats life.
