I agree with you 100%.
When your 18-19 you think "Geez, been on the road for 2 3-years now, and wow, I must have seen it all...."
The fact is that 10 years down the road (if you were to re-read this thread) you'd think of this "expirience" as mearly a "bimp" on the radar screen

Alright, if I agree with ya'll, can we just close this thread. I, personally, am getting tired of people continuously saying I'm doing this for attention, when I am only trying to get an understanding. This forum sometimes can be very narrow-minded and rude.

the thing that grows you up the fastest and keeps you from doing stupid stuff, is buying life insurance. That is a fast wake up call to reality.

I wouldn't say narrow-minded. Rude maybe, but everyone is entitled to their opinion, and you did ask for those. Don't sweat it man. You can always just unsubscribe!

LOL....I hadn't thought of that, but you're right. You do look at things differently once you've taken into account your own demise and the impact of that on others...(it's the whole being responsible to someone other than yourself thing)....

No, I'm not directing it at you or kcobean, or various other members who were informationally helpful rather than just rude. (Ie. Punks who get Z at 18 are stupid and will wreck in no time blah blah.) I was all up for a constructive discussion on the matter, as to oppose to the flame war that insued. Thanks to the few who provided well thought opinions.

Without getting too off-topic...Life insurance is a complicated game. I wish I'd had the discipline to maintain the locked in insurance rates I had when I was in my mid-20's. Getting insurance even now at just 33 is going to be a LOT more expensive. But life insurance is all about mitigating risk and financial exposure to those you leave behind. Except for the rate-lock, you probably don't need insurance right now since you have no dependents.

actually I hate teen drivers too (and im only 19)! Ive got so many crazy stories of guys trying to race me in thier CRXs Civics, sentras etc etc, they are swerving behind me skidding tires, and im just driving the speed limit telling my friend "dude we about to die" haha. I will admit i do push my car but only up to about 10 over whatever the speed limit is and only if im the only car on the road (which is never usually) or if im on the front of the stoplight lane. I do see kids in cheap crap cars tho driving SO unsafe its not funny (like one dude in a 2 lane two way road, i was going to make a left turn into wendys and for somereason decided to check my left passenger mirror (not usually necessary cause there SHOULDNT be a car behind you on the left lane in a two lane two way traffic with no passing lines) but sure enough he PASSES me on my left side...im like holy **** man. I know im not close to you adults, but i KNOW for a fact im better than these guys, and kids like that give us a terrible image. And i get that ricer attention in a 350z...imagine if i got an EVO 8?!????

I hear you man, its a pain to keep current with them. In my case getting life insurance in the first place was a hard task...

Its a number's game to the companies, simple math and stats.....

I dont have any "dependents" but have opted to get as much coverage as possible to be "locked in" a braket.
This is an issue, which most younger people dont realize untill its too late.

The problem with the Z is that its slightly more expensive than your average car, but its still attainable by middle to upper middle class parents. If these families can afford it, of course they're going to buy it for their children. Whose fault is this? No one's! Should 16-18 year old kids learn the value of a dollar? Hell ya! Should you older guys get your panties in a wad that they have a car like this? No, why waste your time!? Yeah we all hate those cocky punk kids, but if you older guys have to feel superior, just buy an uber-expensive sports car. When you get into the 70k+ range then you won't have to worry about punk kids driving the same thing you are. If they ever produce the GTR, i'll definitely be considering the move up. If not, there's always a used DB7 or the new Porsche Cayman...

I heard the on-board computer that controls the radio/CD player/etc. is really complicated to work.

This statement is not true. I can afford it and I am/have not bought a 287-300HP car for any of my kids. Too much power for a first car. I feel the same way about motorcycles. You should not buy a 1000cc motorcycle as your first motorcycle. You need to start small, learn, and then you can move up to a bigger bike.

I just bought my 2003 350z ... I didn't have any help, other than insurance discounts for being on my parents policy... which is still crazy expensive... I just turned 19 by the way.

All this talk about teenagers being terrible drivers. It seems to me that people are forgetting Kimi Raikkonen, Juan montoya, All the Nascar "young guns" and even Danika Patrika could run circles around us when they were teenagers. They had to start some where. What im saying is that its a parents responsibility to teach there children the diffrences between "right and wrong" and "good and bad" and to even train them in an art that most take for granted "Driving".

Sure everyone should work for what they get, but stop hating on those that are inherently more fortunate than you. Nothin you can do about it.

Moral- Teach your children the diffrences in life. If you have the means and the kid deserves it i see nothing wrong with giving your child a nice ride.

Yeah, 'cause those guys are the norm to judge against. Just like most Athletes and "child celebs", these people started off in controlled environments (karting, etc) WAY before they were old enough to have a license.

Sure everyone should work for what they get, but stop hating on those that are inherently more fortunate than you. Nothin you can do about it.
It has nothing to do with whether you're fortunate enough. I'm fortunate enough to buy my kid a gun and send him out into the world with a pat on the back and a "be safe, son", but that doesn't mean it's the right thing to do. Buy the nature of his youth, he'd be a danger to himself and others (though my son knows gun safety more than most adults).

Moral- Teach your children the diffrences in life. If you have the means and the kid deserves it i see nothing wrong with giving your child a nice ride.
That's what many wealthy parents have said right up until the police show up at their door telling them that their son died at the hands of his own youthful stupidity doing a "Hey Dude, watch this!!" maneuver.

All I'm saying is that kids are kids and as such are more prone to testing the limits and showing off than adults are (that's a scientific fact, not my opinion), and the odds of bad things happening increase exponentially as the power of the car goes up, even if it's just a case of honest mistake and inexperience that an older driver might have otherwise been able to overcome.

NOT ALL teenagers are bad drivers just some and if you are a mature enough person then there is nothing wrong with having a Z. I'm 19 and drive a Z, I have almost been killed my many middle age people that don't know what they are doing. You just need to know the limit and now to stop there. Remember its the Young people that kill themselves and Old people that kill others!
