My Dad promised me once I graduate and turn 18, next June, then I can get a new car. I am very happy with the Scion, but my fuel-broiling engine that is a heart lusts for more. My top two options are ofcourse the Nissan 370Z and the newest Chevy Camaro SS, both around $30-35k.

Chevy Camaro:

Pros:
422 hp LS3 with Tremec-6060 Transmission from Z06 and Viper.
Incredible Design and fairly nice interior
0-60 mph: 3.8 sec.

Cons:
about 3800lbs

Nissan 370Z:

Pros:
332hp with a 6Sp Manual
about 3100-3200 lbs
Incredible Handling

Cons:
Comparitively low power
more expensive
2-seater

I would like the better performing car all around, and I would like the car to be the best of the two on the Nurburgring because I'm planning to take the car there when I can afford it. Please help me out!!!
Man, the only thing my dad got me was a Honda Civic when I graduated HS and I was appreciative of that. Your dad should have better sense than get his 18 year old kid a 370Z or Camaro. I hate seeing these parents enable their immature kids with speed on their mind with fast and fancy cars!. Your Scion should best serve you until you finish college, if you plan on going.

Why would you want to ship either a Camaro or Z to Germany? Why not ask your dad for a Porsche GT3?

I don't support a spoiled kid driving a high power rwd car. you should really keep driving weaker cars until 21+ at least. you think you have the driving expierience but it's a whole different ball game.

.. but in the end you are going to do it anyways, because you can, and the offer is there and the temptation is too much to resist.

Parents can be stupid. They want nothing more then to please their kid and to help motivate them get an education, and in the process they are giving them something that could potentially kill them. I agree with you wholeheartedly :/

Should check out the story about the kid that had his Z for a week before running it into a tree and splitting the car in half.

Buy a GM before they go bankrupt, only you can save them.

ROFLMAO

How anyone can/would consider a GM over a Nissan is proof that stupid people are still breeding.

If your bringing your car to the ring... i can pretty much say with 100% confidence the Z will be faster and be a lot more fun than the camaro. But than again its all about what your into. When i had my 350 on the track last summer the instructers that were with me all raved about the Z's handling, im sure the 370 is going to be one of the best performing cars for the $$$

The 370 is looking nicer and nicer with newer pics coming out. Too bad they let immature people buy it.

I'll take a C6 Corvette all day long over any Nissan product. I've owned plenty of both, and if you think Nissan is so much better, then you'd better re-read your own advice and not breed.

I think you guys are way to hard on the thread starter. So he's 17 and wants a fast car! Yeah....and, what's wrong with that? Maybe his dreams of what he'll do with that car are far fetched, but some of you are being punks.

When I was 18 I got my first fast car, and by the time I was 20, I was at the drag strip with my car running mid 12's @ 110. Never wrecked or got into any real trouble on the street. --My point is not ALL young kids are stupid behind the wheel, and maybe you guys should be nicer. Plus it just comes off, like you're jealous that the kid may get a 370z before you....

Just my two cents.

i agree with you dan.
Sure the hp/tq is tempting but if his parents thinks he's ready then so be it.
if they didn't they probably wouldn't offer up.
As for the choice...
i'd say go with the Z.
The Z does have the fun factor of driving.
I drive a z31 and i'm still very entertained when i drive it
i drive my bro's srt4 and it's alright, not as fun to drive though.
Whichever route you choose, just make sure you like the car your getting

p.s-Like the old saying
"once you get into a Z,a Z will get into you" hahaha

Oh screw this whole debate. He's a 17 year old child wishing for a 300HP+ sports car that his parents A)Condone, "he buys" it or they bought it, no difference.B) See Hulk Hogans kid. NO 17 or 18 year old should drive this car as a DD. I dont care if youre Bill Gates Kid. Then you take the Porsche around the track on the weekends and learn it. It takes YEARS of experience to drive a high performance car with maturity. If I had a 300+hp when I was 17 or 18, being young, dumb and full of c*m, Id be dead right now along with a few innocent bystanders. Im 30 and SUCK at driving!! LOL!! Im just saying, I have no accidents in the last 7 or 8 years but good effin Lord. My PARENTS DID the thinking FOR ME and said NO. Geezuz.

Edit. Oh, and OP, good luck, I'm an engineer, medical physics, make a nice buck too and I would LOVE to drive the ring. Can I AFFORD it? Maybe. However, looking at the real time economics of the desire, probably not. But Im thinking no if I choose not to WASTE bank account. Plus, finding time off and actually DOING it...NO WAY.

even a GT-R? Actually, the c6 is the best bang for your buck sports car with looks to match..but interior is worse than the 350z & still a GM product.

Tell me, have you driven either car yet? No.
Can you prove these claims? No.

Yet you have no problem speculating that somehow a 422 hp LS3 powered, 3800 lb Camaro will somehow be slower than a 330-350 hp 3100-3300 lb Z? Ricer math.

TheStig, you are seeing the worst sort of fanboyism that my350z has to offer in Solo. He's by far the biggest Nissan nuthugger here.

I think people being brand ****** and not giving a product a chance based on its own merits is more akin to "stupid".
