The 350Z, especially the HR, is the pinnacle of ALL Z's. It is a work of art, perfectly balanced and timeless in its design, like a fine exotic Italian sports car. The interior was purposely kept at a lower grade to harken back the modest interiors of the nostalgic British sports coupes. Although its lines are very basic and modest and stray from the original "Z" lineage, it forged a whole new direction in design that was cutting edge among other Japanese sports cars. The HR engine is arguably the most sophisticated motor found in any modern car. With all this going for the 350Z one could easily understand that ANY attempt of Nissan to create a successor to this masterpiece would be a failure.

obvious this thread is meant to stir the pot like most threads here.

Anyway i have an 07 z and i love my car. I went to see a 370 two days ago and really its an ok redesign but here is what bugged me about it.

Multifunction guage in a very bad spot.
I know everyone is all about this new interor but really the seat look like a cheap design. i also prefer the older styled behind seat door compartments rather then the pockets in the 09.
i can't swear by it but the trunk in the 09 seems shallower, i did notice the famous golf bag sticker wasnt back there.
Gauges were too busy for me. Keep it simple, its a car not an ipod.
I also prefer the smooth curves of the 350z compared to the more sharp angled 370.
this "key" they have im kinda leary of, i see many potential problems with that in the future.

ok things i wish my z had off the 370 z.

7 spd auto.
paddle shifters.
front glove box.

In all honesty i would not buy a car that was a first year redesign, thats just asking for it. But when 2011 roles around and i feel i would still like a two seater coupe, ide look into a z and probally purchase one.

and so far from what ive seen across the z community, there was more hate towards the HR owners then 370 owners lol.

I just read all of the pages in this thread and what can I say but I found it very funny. The problem is, is that the 350 will no longer be king of the Z road and believe it or not subconsciously a lot of you are having a hard time dealing with this new beast on the road. Do I have a 350? Yes I have an 08 with the salvage title that only had body panel damage. It is magnetic black and I have had this car since 1900 miles and it runs and drives like a dream. I love it when people compliment me on how good it looks with my 19's and now that I have gotten a hold of Zaino nothing can stop the looks of this drop dead gorgeous car. Now here is the funny part...I absolutely hated 350z's when they first came out! You see I am a former owner of 1 240z 1 280z and 1 N/A z32 and 2 z32 twin turbos. I still believe that the Z32 has the timeless look to it. Up until the day I sold it I would still get people asking me what year it was even when the 350 was out for a while already! When the Z32 went out of production in 1996 we were essentially "king" of the Nissan world until that dreadful day they announced that the Z was coming back. I still am a veteran of twinturbo.net and I remember the entire Z32 community reacting the same way about the 350z calling it robo cop car etc.
So how did I end up here? Well I ended up owning one by chance because this guy that owned this car ran off the road and messed up the bumper, hood, fender, and passenger headlight. My buddy who works for the insurance company called me and asked me if I wanted an 08 350z for 20 grand! The catch is that I had to buy it with a salvage title! Apparently the guy pitched a ***** and wanted a new car even though it was just cosmetic fix. So my buddy had to total this one in order to get him a check for a new one. I was in line to get a GTR on pre order and it was not due for at least 5 or six months at the time so I figured hey why not just get this car and fart around in it and then sell it later! After driving the car a month I came to realize all of the improvements that Nissan made to this car over the Z32! It was certainly much easier to work on and it was even more installer friendly when it came to mods and stereo equipment. A few months later my GTR came in two months too early. I was not ready to take delivery of the car becuase I had too many cars and needed to get rid of some. Well needless to say the dealer just bumped me right out of my deposit and my GTR slot. Since then I have ended up driving the 350 longer that I ever expected I would! It does not take much to get the car to handle nice. I mean all I have are some Tanabe springs, 19's and that is it! Car drives like a damn dream and then I woke up and said wait a minute!!! Could this be the same Z32 guy that could not stand this car??? Well yes it is!!! Now that the 370 is on deck I can only say that I do not like the front, the interior is very nice and wayyy better than the 350, 3.7 versus 3.5 is not really going to be that much! I am sure they could get 332 hp out of 3.5 if they wanted to. Forced induction is the way to go on these cars and if it were not for my inner GTR yearning I would just keep the car but I had my fun and it is time to move on. You all will just have to get used to the fact the 350z is no longer king of the road and it is time to move over and let the next model take over. Nissan did not build this car in hopes that the 350z owners would start turning in their cars and buying these up. They are targeting new buyers to enjoy the next generation of the Z experience! that is where their sales are going to come from and hey if they happen to convert a few thousand of you along the way then that is fine too. Remember I was once a staunch z32 owner and believed that nothing was better than the z32tt! Now I am driving a 350 that is currently for sale! Who would of ever thought that! I do wish they had put the intelligent key in the 07/08 z though. Otherwise, the 350z has been a great car to me and who ever can get their heads past a salvage title is going to end up with a great car for a very good deal for 15k!!!

For sale 08 350z magnetic black base model with factory LSD installed
racing hart 19's
Alpine iva w505
Zenenclosures box for 2 10's
Alpine sup amp all power wires and RCA pre run you just need to finish install

Brand new brembo front calipers(not installed yet but come with the car)
pre wired for Valentine one Radar and nice radar detector hanger from mirror but the valentine goes with me! You will have to drop your own 400 for that or buy mine!
14,500 miles and climbing ( all highway driving)
just had oil changed at dealer and you get a binder with all service work performed.
First 15,000 takes it! I am in the marked for a used GTR now. Selling this car will put me at an amount where my wife won't leave me.
The car is in socal and for you socal folks the car is at cars and coffee in irvine every week if you want check it out for yourself. I will put a for sale sign on it this week and I always park up front. Hit me up at 909-843-7453 my name is Kev!

In conclusion..Hr folks keep your cars until at least the quirks are worked out of this one! At least the tranny is not going to cost 20 grand!

and I'm spent!

Next year's thread will say...

Do you regret buying your gen-1 z34 with that hideous multi-unction gauge and no back-up cameras? - lol

same goes for m3's. I'm a M3 fan and I think all the models are great. I love the e30 e36 e46 and e92. i have a friend that used to own the e36 and he thinks that model is the best one even better than the e46 and e92. He probably hasn't even driven any other model but he likes it best because it's his.

so when i saw the new 370z i caught myself hating on it a little bit. but when i saw the side by side pics on here i realized that my car is a beautiful car but not so beautiful when it's next to a 370z. My 350 looks fat and outdated next to it. but i won't let that make me feel insecure because when i drive it i still turn heads. and when i modd it some more it will look better than that car.
there's nothing to feel insecure about but so many people are insecure about it and show it by hating on a superior car. i had a 91 Z32 TT and as much as i loved it i love my Z33 ten fold. dont hate, appreciate what you have and appreciate the newer younger brother that's all.

When someone comes out with fender/headlight mods, then we'll see. Until then, fail.

Default I love my 07 Carbon

I want to love the 370z and to be honest im really starting to like the lines, but I still find myself closing one eye and holding my index finger over part of the headlight. So thats pretty much my issue. The car sounds amazing and the interior looks much better (sans the steering wheel). I have no regrets about my 07 but I do have a little sadness that the new headlight design looks more like and afterthought. Heres hoping for a midcycle face lift.

I am curious, have you seen the 370Z in person? I am one of those who hated the design when it first came out, then started liking it when I saw the videos from Germany. Then when I actually saw one in person at the auto show I was amazed at how it really looked. It actually looked great to me. A big smile came on my face and that is good. The thing is I think both the 350Z and 370Z are great looking cars. But I do think the 370Z is a definite step in the right direction for Nissan. I see a HUGE potential for this car.

Sometimes it seems this forum lives in a vacuum because it seems most everyone else thinks the 370Z is a big improvement over the 350Z
and looks great.

I agree with your post. The thing is that it is natural through the advancement of technology that the next generation of car will be an improvement. That is just how it is. I have actually liked every Z model Nissan has put out. Some more than others. The 240Z and 300ZX TT were my favorites (until this car, the 370Z). I have always wanted Nissan to go back to the original design of the 240Z and modernize it with the vast improvements that have been made over the years in technology. That is how I see the 370Z. The 350Z, although nice, does not seem to have a strong link to the original, the 370Z does. And we can argue this but many in the automotive press are saying this exact same thing.

But yeh, technology improves through the years. No one can deny that.

Default 350/370

Parked my '08 350 next to a 370. I know the 370 is shorter, but it appears much bulkier than the 350. The nose is higher and the whole car carries a heft that the 350 doesn't.

I was hoping for a smaller looking/feeling car. Still, I'll probably get one some day.

First off, i love my 350 HR, its the most amazing machine that i've ever driven, and I KNEW the 370 was coming out when i bought it... that being said I also really like the 370 and if I had decided not to buy my HR 8 months ago I would def. be picking one up, but due to financial reasons I couldn't wait for the 370 to come out. its an obvious evolution of the Z car. its just not everyone's cup of tea I guess you could say. The 370 IS a step up over the 350 with the nicer interior and more powerful engine and so on, so its hard for me as a 350 owner to hate on this car, its a brand new and improved car and I really cant deny that its much improved in many ways, the only thing I can really hate on is the new body styling of the car and i'll be honest i dont love it, but i do like it. I have noticed that most of the complaints are about the overall look of the car, and i can understand that, it is very different than the 350 and does make the 350 look dated, but i dont think in a BAD way. And no i dont have any buyers remorse, it was the 350z that i worked my ace off for for 3 years to get not the 370. so i think thats why the 350 will always be more special for me.

Oh and for any one who lives in Westchester NY the nissan dealer in Port Chester has one red base 370z auto if anyone wants to go check one out in person. the sticker price was $32,500.

It's obvious. And the majority of the HR haters are DE owners. C'mon - each is an evolution - and better in many ways.

In the end, enjoy what you have...I know I do. We are very fortunate to be driving one of these

+1111 As a DE owner though I can say the DE community was welcoming the new Z motor with open arms! Its when the better than thou attitude surface that provoked hate. "Most" HR owners are just hating the 370 so harshly right off the bat...ugly this, piece of crap that, its just funny. I can wait till one of our elite MT drivers on this site gets a hold of the 370z and put down some nice numbers, people will be singing a diff tune then
