Default Sirius recomendations/suggestions...

I want the unit to be portable so that I can play it in the car/house/2nd car, this is possible right? I believe I have the sat ready stock HU that come with the 2006 tour.

I think the following will work, suggestions.

SIRIUS Sportster 4 ($119.99)
http://www.crutchfield.com/S-ZZculp3...P4TK1&g=250150

Home kit ($39.99)
http://www.crutchfield.com/S-ZZculp3...asp?i=607SUPH1

2nd car hookup ($49.99)
http://www.crutchfield.com/S-ZZculp3...asp?i=607SUPV1

Does this sound right?
Anything better/smaller available out there?
Will I have to pull the HU out to hook up the Sirius receiver?

Thanks

Well, that depends on how you want to hook it up. I use the Sportster with a tape adapter. Works perfectly and sounds just fine. The HU being sat ready does nothing with the Sportster. The sat ready part is for using the fully installed and integrated Sirius tuner. That device is totally not portable and will work in only the car it's installed in. Get the Sportster, you'll be happy.

I have used a couple Sirius devices. You will get the best sound for your car if you buy a H/U that is Sirius ready and its companion tuner-box. The sound is much better than using a universal box with a tape adapter or FM modulator.

Your space is really limited to where you can mount that unit, make sure you give it some thought before you start the install.

Tape adapter? You cant tell me you like the cord hanging of the cassette? The best connection is a direct one if you can get an adapter that will give you an AUX-IN; thats your best best besides replacing the headunit all together with a Sat Ready aftermarket unit (which I would recommend the most) but if portability is required your selection is fine. Adapter will require pulling the headunit

After that a hardwired FM modulator would be next but they tend to muffle the sound a bit and I've had customers complain their FM reception is diminished using the sirius version. You have to pull the unit for this

Then I guess the cassette, then eek Fm modulation No installation required

Well, I mention I have a 2006 bose HU because I don't have no (stinkin) tape player. The manual says it is SAT ready, Doesn't say it's XM or Sirius ready, just says SAT. Do I still need to purchase something like the AAI-NIS2

You will need to pick up the AAI-NIS2, that will give you the AUX-IN. While you wont be able to control the music from the stock radio, it will be the best type of connection you can get.

I guess I will be most specific.
I have a 2006 5AT touring Z w/o the DVD nav.

2006 HU options are as follows:

What the **** is satellite radio capable if I have to buy an adapter to connect it? I guess I am a little pissed I have to spend and extra bill at this point.

If you were installing a factory satelite system, you would be fine, but the stuff your buying is not from the factory, hence the need for an aftermarket adaptor.

You could always look into getting factory Sat, but I think in the long run you will spend more money sticking to Nissan parts.

That makes sense, thank you for the clarification on the wording.

Now, if I get the PA11NIS will that allow me to hook up Sirius and an Ipod?

I cant see the wiring too well, and havent used one of the PA11NIS yet, but I would imagine you could use one or the other, but not both. Most true interface adapters use either a cd changer plug or one for factory satellite to plug into the factory headunit.

The second one would be choice because it would allow both connections at the same time:

The ipod is separate so you can have satellite and Ipod. Post up a review if you end up going with the pictured unit, but from first view it looks like you will be able to control the ipod from the headunit (curious to see HOW much control..) but the satellite wont be controllable through the headunit. So for mounting you can stash the pod and mount the sat somewhere easily readable, and easily reachable.

BUT This would have me concerned:
Special Note:
PA11NIS is not compatible with vehicles equipped with Satellite radio tuner.

That might mean your sat ready unit, it might mean if you already have satellite factory components. I would get some clarification on that before dropping $150.00
