Sirius reception
Anyone here have Sirius radio in their Z and cant get a good signal?
I installed my old sirius stuff in the Z this past weekend after getting it back from a cousin. I gave him my SIR-PNR1 and stuff when he installed his pioneer headunit in his car. He said he never really used it so i got it back. Anyways, installed it in the Z along with the D3 last weekend. Its really just the IP bus cable, power cord, ant and tuner box.
I got a new dot antenna at best buy, cause the original one had a few nicks in the wire and looked beat. I have it on the roof of my nismo...yeah..
. I remembered having trouble once in a while with the same equipment in my STi, so i thought, I would love to hide the ant, but i wanna make sure this works. I could always move it. Its all running off of a SIR-PNR1 box.
Now i remember sirius cutting out or dropping out every one in a while when i had the same gear in my STi. But since sunday when i instlaled it , i think i only listened to about 10 minutes worth of music. Both ways to work yesterday it came in for about 3 minutes, then it dropped out and never came back. If i try to change channels quickly ( hitting up or down repeatedly) it would do that same thing. If i let it sit, change sources, or turn the D3 off and back on again, it seems to come back eventually.
I know Sirius can be patchy sometimes, but this is complete crap. Anyone have any ideas or suggestions. Has anyone had more luck with the SIR-PNR2 (if you can find one now)? thx

does it say "aquiring signal"? i would reinstall the antenna just to make sure you didnt "knick" it or you can call up sirius and ask them to send out another signal. its hard to see what the problem is with sirius units cause the only way to figure out whats wrong with it is by replacing parts. also sometimes stores get a bad batch of antennas
I only get an acquiring signal message if I unplug the power to the tuner box in a hard reset. Otherwise it goes right to the last channel I was on on powerup. So it gets reception clean and clear. It just randomly cuts out VERY often. On the half hour ride to work this morning I got 4 minutes of audio. Almost like if it loses the signal for a split second the tuner box locks up ànd wont resume audio and can't change channels.
I just got home and it did it again. I turned the Z on and i had hard attack on and there was some slayer on, coming in clean and clear. Then after 20 seconds, no audio. The channel gets locked into the one i was on. And for the rest of the ride home, NOTHING. I just parked the Z in the driveway and turned it off. Then turned the key back to on and it worked again.....for about 4 seconds. Then it cut off again.
It could be, but the real test was today. Not a could in the sky, in a open area and the Z was parked. I turned the key ON...i had audio for a few seconds....then nothing. 20 minutes go by....still nothing. Then i turned the car OFF. Then i waited like 3 minutes and turned it back ON again. It came in again, then cut off after 4 seconds. Rinse repeat.
I think i narrowed it down to a bad IP bus cable ( which i doubt since it works, has clean audio and can control the box). I dont think the D3 likes the PNR1. Its not listed under the compatible headunits, since the D3 was after the PNR1. But it is listed under the PNR2.
Now i would love to buy a new unit, but lately.....where the hell can i find one. Its seems us pioneer people are stuck in the twilight zone since they discontinued the PNR2 with no new box in sight.

when i hooked up my sirius i didnt like the antenna on the roof so i stuck it to the rear strut tower brace (off to the left on the black part still below the window), even though it is in the car it has a clear view out the back window up and out and it gets great reception. I just used a small piece of double sided tape to stick it.
so once you get your hardware issue sorted out you may want to try this location rather than the outside of the car, it is stealthy and has been working great for me.
