Default Replacing Bose sub with after market

I have a 06z track with the bose system, no navi. I am in the process of replacing the system but want to keep everything clean and hidden. Has anyone had any success with replacing the factory Bose sub with an aftermarket one? I really want to take out the Bose sub and replace it with a quality sub, but I want it to be able to fit in the hole the Bose sub comes out of.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

A simple swap is installing the Infinity BassLink. It fits, and it sounds OK. This device is a combination SubW with its own amp. If you go with this device, the correct installation is essential to avoid vibration and consequential damage. Google “Infinity BassLink + problems” to see what happens when people do not install this device properly.

dave079’s advice provides the way to do this if you want better sound.

A search here reveals specific instructions to create a sealed box fitted to the space behind the driver or passenger seat. You build the box, install your preferred SubW, and connect an external amp.

Of course you get better sound with an under-strut box or spare tire enclosure, but you lose cargo space with these solutions.

I have done the re and re swap in a convertible and it netted 'reasonable' results. That said, you need to stuff that 'enclosure' with foam and seal it off the best you can with dynamat to form csome kind of sealed environment. It works in a pinch but if you have a coupe, look at the under strut bar box option for the best sound.

There's also a guy selling pre-fab boxes in the marketplace that go in that spot if you REALLY want a sub in there.

I agree. I mention the Infinity BassLink because glsalinas asks for a solution to replace the stock Bose SubW that resides behind the driver’s seat.

The Infinity BassLink is a simple solution since it’s relatively easy to mount and fits behind the driver or passenger seat (so no loss of cargo space), but it’s more like “Bigger Bass” than the punch you get from a real SubW. Also, some owners report poor reliability, but that might be related to poor mounting instead of defects in the unit.

The BassLink might be adequate for some people who are looking for a solution that offloads some bass from the front midrange speakers to avoid door-panel-rattle. This solution will not satisfy people wanting punch from the SubW.

A better solution for mounting a SubW behind the driver or passenger seat is available from one of our sponsors.

You can also purchase this enclosure “loaded.”

Here is another solution (from the same vendor) that does not rob much cargo space. It won’t work for people transporting golf bags.

Of course, an under-strut SubW mount will deliver better sound, but the OP asks for solutions that replace the stock Bose SubW. I assume he wants a SubW that preserves existing cargo space.

I like the look of the corner box that wickedcas makes. Sound is key but also the ability to not have anything seen but only heard. It's a toss up though. everything I have been hearing is to go with the under strut box for the best quality sound. It appears that something is gonna have to give, either space or sound? I wish I could have both.......for a reasonable price!

Any one using the shallow depth subs these days? I was on MBQuartz site and noticed they had a sub that had a mounting depth of 3.5 inches! That seems appealing to me as well!

Check out the JL Audio Stealth Box. It seems like a lot of money @ $800 new, but consider it's pre-loaded with 2 subs already... My buddy bought one used in great condition for $400.
