Default top cubby replacement

ok after looking and searching i am still very confused if you can clarify things for i will greatly appreciate it i want to do something soon. so i read this thread...

https://my350z.com/forum/audio-build...tallation.html

i loved the way this looks in the factory spot but heres my questions.

1. is that just a screen?? can i put a whole navigation ONLY in it and make it look like that? i want to change the navigation and keep the sound system because i want it to stay clean looking.

2. i have alot of speakers and was wondering is changing out the speakers just a matter of a swap or do i have to have an amp or something if their coming from the stock sound system.

3. the stock dvd for the navigation in the back....does that just stay like that or can i use it for a dvd for a navigation in the front? im just lost with all of this. thanks for the help in advance!

As a fellow new Z enthusiast I can understand your frustration and I commend that you did do some searches, but you have to do more.

It is just a screen
It depends on the HU you have. Bose or non bose.
Stock nav unit is for the stock nav unit. Use it or don't it.

I put a navigation in my cubby. Look up the Magellan RoadMate 1700. I think if you type in google magellan 1700 350z there should be a diy that comes up showing you how its done. Looks factory because its a 7 inch screen

RE> The instructions in this thread are for mounting an LCD screen. The upper/forward cubby will not hold a Double-Din device. You can install the Magellan RoadMate 1700 as Nissan Z03 mentions since it fits the available depth.

RE> Which OEM CES is in your car (Bose or Clarion)?

RE> It’s only for navigation.

It is confusing, but you have a lot of people here with a great deal of experience. Ask away if you have more questions.

The Bose “upgrade” is a disadvantage because the sound quality is awful, and it makes replacement a little more difficult.

If your main objective is replacing the GPS function, Nissan Z03’s suggestion (installing the Magellan RoadMate 1700 in the upper/forward cubby) is a good solution. It fits and provides all the function you need. In fact you do not need to integrate the Magellan RoadMate 1700 into your car’s CES since it is effective as a standalone. The only challenge I see is providing access to the device’s connection to update ROM.

Ok so question this magellan gps fits right in would I be able to put a new DVD player in the back where the factory one is to run a plug to it to play DVDs? It does have an input for the backup camera so maybe if I put that on I can splice a DVD into the av too? Or no?

If you install the Magellan, you won’t have an LCD screen to display your DVD. For that matter, the OEM Navigation screen won’t display DVD’s.

And, it’s difficult (but not impossible) to integrate non-Bose components into a Bose system.

I did what the OP did in the link you posted, installed Garmin GVN 54 for Navigation and
installed a Farenheit DVD in the glove compartment behind the passenger seat and connected it to the screen. Fact is I have only played 2 dvds since installation about 2 years ago. Redundant to me now. But the Garmin is awesome
