Yea, my car is going in for cage as soon as the builder (Greg Lucas) get's done with his current job. This guy I mentioned really isn't serious at this point, however the ability to run the car "as-is" might bring him in. He has HPDE experience but doesn't carry NASA or SCCA comp license. I have both. Anyways, I left a message, look forward to hearing from you.

The way I read it, he can run the car stock (or only the mods as listed) with all the safety items as well as his comp license.

He has the brembos because they came with the track, and he already has some 9/10 staggered wheels, so really all he would need is a cage,seat,harness,etc.. and tires. Does anyone see any issues? Should be just as legal as anything fully built, right?
To be "legal" he'll need to do pretty much the same as everyone else except suspension and Wavetrac. He needs spec tires and all the safety equipment and that's the bulk of the expense. And the point of a spec series.

And more importantly get the skills to get a comp license.

All fair points! Granted, the specZ suspension/diff is about $4k, so it's a good place to cut costs to get into the series. Locally, there is an option for cars "in build" to run in the series to get their feet wet. Comp license is first, and I think the easiest way is the 3-day SCCA school.

I think it's great that they can run without the suspension and diff. Hopefully being able to shave 4k off of the initial build costs will help get more people out there.

I would love to be able to do that. I am pretty tight on cash and that would make it a lot easier for me to start sooner. The only issue I see is that on stock suspension and stock upper A-arm, your tires will get destroyed. I may give it a try though initially. It would be cool if I could continue to run my cusco A-arms on stock suspension until I got the Kw's.

I bet you can run whatever you want if you're the only entry! Cusco arms not allowed, of course, and I'm not getting much camber from this set-up anyway.

I'm sorry to announce that I'm withdrawing from the 2012 NASA Nationals. My younger brother has stage IV brain CA and his condition continues to decline. After visiting him in hospice yesterday, I decided the best thing is to be here with him and my sister in Colorado.

But I still want to see at least seven Spec Zs start the first Spec Z National Championship race, so I’m transferring my entry over to Clark Crawford (who's already raced and qualified in Spec Z) out of Nashville to fill the #7 spot. Will Faules, NASA National Event Manager already has been informed and has approved the change. Clark also needs tires, so I’m trying to make arrangements to transport the mounted BFGs (yeah- the ones I’ve been saving all season) for Clark’s use.

I can assure everyone that Nissan Sport Magazine will cover this race as well as the development of Spec Z in the future. I just wish I was there dicing with everybody to get the best story...

Some talk about SpecZ from Jeremy C in this month's current issue of SpeedNews: http://www.snmagcurrent.com/publication/?i=124525

Some good news for all of us:

"There are no new rule changes on the horizon"
"holes in the rear brace will be allowed for shock adjustment"
"considering allowing aftermarket camber adjustment devices"

as well as some discussion about stub axles

CA-local, and Director of the series, Jeremy Croiset, set the fastest lap in the practice session in today's practice (1:37.4). Our pal, Bill S, followed with a 1:39.7, and the best times ranged all the way to 1:45.6.

Jeremy did not enter the qual (just shows DQ, but did log a 1:38.7), and Richard Baldwin qual'd first with a 1:38.384, a track record for SpecZ. The times ranged to a 1:40.0.

Wish I was there!
