So for continuity in my log the 2012 season is done. As for true progress..

first time out on a track. TMP

15 months later, who knows.. 12-13 second per lap improvement?
Best continuous lap. 1:20.48

Best lap with start finish in real position 1:20.75

Got the right pedestals from APR but noticed the studs they sent were too short.
So I cut a small trench in the 3rd layer of metal on the interior of the hatch then bolted down the wing. I torqued it like mad and noticed I dimpled the hatch a little. But it's strong as can be it feels like. Takes my full weight no problem. Looks a lot faster at least.

Just needs a chrome gas cap, altezza tail lights, and some sweet *** underbody lights and it will be complete.

JK :P Looks awesome and I am quite jealous. Height looks good for the profile, should get plenty of clean air. Wouldn't hurt to try and make some kind of a rear diffuser as well if it fits (might not with your exhaust). There is a low pressure zone under the wing that will 'suck' air from behind the car (a good thing). Maybe not as much with a high wing like that though, hard to say.

Of course a front splitter will be very important. Rear neg lift = some front lift. Although small, technically your front tires now have less grip (about 10% of the rear downforce will be front end lift). Splitter will balance it out nicely.

Oh, and have you seen Jim's new setup? Going to be some fast times next year

Ha thanks.
Oh how I wish I picked up your wheel and exhaust now. I need a lightweight passenger seat too. I am thinking of "converting" the stock seat into a lightweight seat.

Yeah I've seen Jims car. Awesome looking.

Im wondering if I should make the splitter to fit the stock bumper or the Nismo V2?
The over hang on the V2 will be huge.

Is the V2 flat at the front? Like all one level? A problem I found with the stock was there was a bit of a dip right by the wheels. I also had mine about 2in lower since I was stock ride height. I had stock spring rates to deal with and was scraping it here and there at the track (especially under highspeed braking like Shannonville) even with my 4x4 suspension.

How much clearance do you have with the V2 as it is? The stiffer spring rates will help it from scraping everywhere, but it will still scrape. I was surprised how good of condition mine was still in. I beat the **** out of it at DDT/SMP, not to mention around town and the bolts on the bottom were messed but otherwise it really held up (no carbon on the bottom either, just a bit of resin at the edges.

No it's not flat. It looks like this.

I was going to make an air dam out of aluminum or something that juts up and blocks air from travelling between the bumper and the splitter.

I'm almost thinking go with the V2 because they are easier to find than stock bumpers just about. Just that if I extend 3" it will be huge. That's another thing. How far out should I go? I noticed Sashas was just a couple of inches out from the bumper.

From what I have read, there isn't much Cd (co-effiecent drag) for the longer the splitter, so a 6in and a 4in are close in the amount of Cd. However is also a diminishing return of downforce after a few inches. So even though a 6in splitter isn't much more drag than a 4in, there isn't the increase in -Cl (negative lift, or downforce) as you get from 2in to 4in. Its not linear, and probably a 4in is about as long as you would ever bother with. FWIW, don't base it off of pro race cars like ALMS/Touring car as they are limited by rules often. I believe the GT class in canadian touring car limits to 3in for example.

If you have the time, buy this book
Amazon Amazon

Lots of great examples for wings and splitters. Mine was 4in (due to CASC rules) however I probably wouldn't have made it longer. I had plans to CFD a Z this winter but doubt I will find time.

1 problem I see with the V2 is it has a lot of opening. This is drag, but also will limit the efficiency of the splitter. Since air will be passing through the rad opening instead of up and over the car. With your AC out I would consider closing it up some if you can, it will also make your wing work better. Instead of air going in the bumper, and out the bottom of the car -bad- it will go up and over the car, and keep air from under the car -good!

So I should find a way to close up the bumper a bit. and. I should find a way to punch speed holes in my hood. lol.

Ideally yes My original plan with that hood was some vents. Not for cooling, but for air to escape.

Check out this Z4

All air coming in has a specific place to go. Either into the intake, to the driver (the hose), or out the top out vents (from the rad)

With that in mind I might find a way to close the lower half of the opening. And I might butcher a hole in each side of the hood. No plasma cutters. Angle grinder style.
