Looking to get into a 350Z
Hey guys,
From Ontario, Canada here. I am looking of getting into a 350Z and I want to find out more as to what to look out for and look for.
What is the best place to hunt for a 350z? Any good Canadian forum sales/etc... I've been checking autotrader regularly.
What's the price range I should be looking for one? 10< for a stock car?
My understanding is I should be looking for an 06+ as these motors come with more power from the factory? Any other things?
Obviously looking for manual, not roadster/convertible.
I've gone through so many cars but my track toy was a 240sx which I took apart last October.
I still have all the parts and am considering reusing some on the 350Z:
•RPF1 17x9.5+18 rims with 255/40/17 NT01s (I'm guessing these should fit under stock fenders?)
•Wilwood 6 pot fronts and 4 pot rears with large vane vented rotors and aluminum tophats. I am 99% sure I will have to make new mounts for the calipers even though it's the same PCD and often times 240sx owners use 350z/g35 calipers/rotors.
Power wise I like NA, I am more into cornering/handling/grip. I heard that UpRev Osiris mod, headers, intake, exhaust are a sure way to liven up and get the VQ to 300whp+
Any reliability issues to consider? Oil starvation? Oil coolers?

Auto trader.com worked well for me. Lots of filters like mileage, price, distance, color etc. Decide what your budget is before you do anything. New car fever can bite you.

Wouldn't recommend putting 17s on the z, we have some pretty big wheel wells. Also try to find an 07 or 08 that didn't fall into the slave cylinder recall range.

Reliability shouldn't be an issue if you stay on top of general maintenance.
Some Z's are oil burners (specifically those with revup engines). If you find you buy one with that issue, keep some extra oil on deck incase you get low and just check it once every few days or something like that, problem solved. Adding an oil cooler would be beneficial but not necessary unless you live crazy hot weather, have over heating issues (unlikely), or are planning ahead for boost.
Good luck finding your z

Unless you buy an HR (07+) your not hitting 300whp with just boltons + tune, even with that said 300 whp on a de or revup NA is extremely rare. to hit that you will have a built motor for sure.
I would either get a de or hr, the hr will be better for you if your wanting a better platform for na power. But hrs will probably put you at the 13k+ range you can find the de from 8-11k depending on your market and the mileage.

I had a Solar Orange HR for 14,000 with 23,xxx miles, bought from a friend back in 2010. Sold it to get back in college then got an s14 kouki on craigslist with 95,xxx miles for 3,500 from a guy who was about to have twins. Then bought TSG's S/C Z for an INCREDIBLE price, for all the stuff that was done to it. Normally i like to mod my own cars but i couldn't turn down the deal. He was the founder of a group i'm in Fayettville Z. It's all about finding a deal. Never settle until you stumble across something amazing. You might rush into something then find something way better for a fraction of the price!
