well i searched for anything in close relation to my question, but couldn't find anything really. so my question is when you use the clay bar does that take off the wax/polish? the reason i asked is because i just washed the car 2 times tonight once with Z-7 and once with dawn to prep for the zaino polish. well i said f the clay bar, but once i started polishing i noticed i really should of used the clay bar. so now that i have a couple of coats of polish and need to clay bar. do i need to re-due everything i just did once i clay bar it? should of just stopped and clay'ed it! thanks for any info.

How do you use the claybar? Reason being like everybody out there I have contaminats on my Z also, tree sap, rain, bugs you name it. Anyway I tied using the claybay on part of my hood using meguairs polish I really see no difference, still see the tree sap on the hood, but water damn well beads up so much more than the section of the hood that I didn't use the polish & clay bar. Any ideas or directions would be great
You shouldn't have to re-do everything. Just go over the car with the clay bar, wipe/wash the residue, and hit the car once more with a polish IF needed.
Then continue with the remaining steps/coats for Zaino or wax.
The clay is similar to polishing the paint. Note: Similar!!

Use a QD (quick detailer) and spray liberally on the car's surface. Gently rub the clay bar in the area you sprayed with the clay bar. If the clay bar starts to stick to the paint, you need more QD.
While using the clay bar, fold it over and/or knead it often.

I would suggest you redo entire car after the clay bar. Infact i would use the dawn to wash, then clay bar it (useing z7 and water so the bar can slide) , follow that up with the z2 (let it dry then wipe off), quick polish, z5 (let it dry then wipe off), quick polish, z2 (let it dry then wipe off) to finish. I did it like that and my car looks better than anything to ever come out of a pro detail shop!
Now i started at around eight in the morning and it took me all freakin day and my arms were numb at the finish but it is truly worth the effort!
Cheers ZAINO !!FTMFW!!

I called Zaino once and whoever answered the phone (Mr. Zaino?) said that claybar does not remove zaino polish. I asked how it could pull crap out of the paint without getting the zaino off, and he said it works like shaving your face - the hair comes through the skin, but you don't have to shave off your skin to shave your face.
The claybar is simply amazing. I thought I had ruined my paint because I ran metallic race brake pads while it was rainy, and I let the metal particles stick to my paint for a few days (like a dumbazz). Nothing would get it off, not even dawn. So I tried claybar on one small section and it worked, so I ended up spending about 30 hours over a week claybarring the whole car. It literally saved my paint, and the car looks perfect again.

It was probably Sal Zaino that you talked to. And that's a great analogy of shaving and claybarring. Done right, claybarring should not affect Zaino and probably none of the other synthetic waxes.

It only took me as long as I said above because I had such a bad problem with the "rust" on the paint from the metallic brake pads. It took me about 4-5 hours to do one complete door (the worst part...down the side of the car).
