Powertrain doesn't end until 60k or 5 years of first owner purchase, whatever comes first. As long as you are within those limits you can get the engine replaced- but if they can't solve it expect some kind of settlement so they don't keep throwing away $9k on your car each time they put in a v2.

I wish they would just put in the engine and transmission from the 07-08's. that would save them time and money down the road.

Unfortunately this is not possible due to the nature of swap. They have to stick with the updated version of the model already in the car.

I wouldn't want to go through 150+ pages of this thread to find the info you were looking for, but all the info you need is here.

It's up to you to grab the info that will help you in your case.

I dont know why Nissan has not own-up to the issue and honor the consumer with a recall. Instead, we have to strugle to get things right.

Because it's much cheaper for them to handle it this way, versus alerting those who might not realize they have a problem. This thread used to have a large number of posts daily, now it is down to a trickle per week........ looks like NNA's strategy is paying off.......... this issue will slowly go away as cars get out of warranty. It stinks, but that is their position for sure. I just want an engine that doesn't consume, or buy it back at a good price for all the trouble I've experienced.

Yeah, it's either BB (what I've gone/going through) or those who are oblivious to the issue. This is why concern has faded. BTW - after tomorrow my '06 goes GOODBYE. Going on 2 years with this issue and TOO tired of it. But, the story continues - got a '08 6MT SMB ZR -4-29-08. This was the fix for '06 consumption issues.

My car burns about 1 quart every 2500 miles. I guess I could live with that.

I posted this previously:

"The head mechanic told me the regional rep was recently there, and they discussed the '06 consumption issue. He said the rep stated it was a valve cover issue. I am stating this from memory and I'm no mechanic, but I believe the way he worded it was oil is getting past the valve cover and into the intake and being sucked out the PVC. He agreed it isn't a ring issue."

I wonder if this is true, and if so, will we see another "fix" coming that concerns valve covers.

I think you'll enjoy the ZR 4

My first two oil changes were ok, it was the third at about 11,500 miles that was down at the bottom of the dip stick. Shame is, the engine is broken in nicely and it really hauls a** now, very smooth. If the consumption continues, I will probably force buyback as well.

Best of Luck to you John! You're a good guy. Hate that we have to go through this. BTW - What 'fun' I had taking out my custom audio out of the '06 putting it in the '08 and the stock from the '08 put into the '06. Yeah - tedious to say the least. It would have cost me so much to have others do it.

My V2 is going in tomorrow. Took them a real long tiime to get it in, about 6 weeks. They only did one oil consuption test at 1000 miles and agreed it failed the TSB. Said they would order a new motor. I checked in after three weeks of hearing nothing and was told they had problems trying to get the engine and had to get approval from NNA. This is the first swap they are doing so I hope it is ok!

Not keeping my hopes up that it will actually work though. Gets me one step closer to try getting a buy back and trade up to a newer model.

Thanks, I read your post on the new car too quickly and saw "ZR 4" and thought you bought a Bimmer convertable lol
Now that I saw this post, realize you got an '08 Z.

I have thought of getting an '08 if I end up doing a buyback. How do you like it? Noticable performance increase with the HR engine? This is kind of petty, but besides the hood, I really don't care for that "add on" plastic module at the front of the headliner by the interior lights, the one that houses the microphone for the bluetooth car phone........ it looks like an afterthought to me, like Nissan needed a mic so lets stick it here. Wonder with an aftermarket stereo that uses an outboard mic for bluetooth, if it could be wired in though. Anyway, thanks for the kind words, and I look forward to hearing about the '08!

The HR is really great! It pulls like no tomorrow. I'm broke in now (post 1200mi) and revving up to 7.5K on occassion. It sounds 'meaner' too - but not crazy loud or anything. Just 'buffer' than the '06. Yeah, on the extra add-on thingy. I was like, 'what tha' but mostly you'll just forget it's there. On the hood, hated it at first site (late '06) but now as only alternative - got use to it and like it Not throwing salt in wounds here, just hope that a good fair BB will mean an great '08 for all those '06 sufferers in the future!!!

I'm listening 06CPV35 ... I followed Nissan's break-in on my second V1 and my V2 to no avail. Now my car is back in Nissan's hands under lemon law. They bought back the car about 3 weeks ago.

Good Luck.
