Forged Performance: Live Report from the Bonneville Salt Flats Speed Attempt**Live
lol - don't think anyone has measured the coefficient of rolling friction in the salt flats.
Hey, I did find a nice link that also takes tire inflation pressure into account (I didn't): http://www.bgsoflex.com/aero.html
The frontal square feet of a 350z is 25.55 sq ft, based on height and width (not correcting for ground clearance).
That calculator indicates 627 hp required at sea level (30 in Hg) - not sure why there's that much of a difference in the calculations...

Raj, thanks for doing the calculation. I agree with your posts. I think the best shot at hitting 200mph, would be with a standard coupe, without any type of aero devices, and some stock sized wheels. The weight, body kit, massive tires, untested aero devices, and the convertable, are all working against us.
I do think a power buffer of some sort...maybe 50-75whp would be needed to actually accelerate the car steadily to 200mph within the 3 mile limit. Running the engine at WOT for 2-3 mins puts tremendous stress and heat soak into the engine, so the idea is to get to terminal velocity as quickly as possible, I would think. On the dyno, the engine is producing about 580whp when corrected to STD Atmo. In 90-100F weather, the engine is physically putting down about 10-12% less power, so I guessing that on this day, we were making about 522whp.
The Speed Week officials, confirmed that the BEST time to run the salt flats is at dawn, when the surface and air are cool, and the wind is zero.
It was really a lot of fun.

Sharif do they only do this once a year?
As far as changes, since its unlikely that Brent will trim weight from his car, or remove/modify his body kit and wheel package, we'll mostly do it the old fashioned way: More Power!

As long as I dont pass out from sleep deprivation, I will get the vid upload late today/tonight

I have always been a fan of fast convertibles! there just something really cool about them. It made me think about this convertible and it had twin turbos too...........it ran 180s+..........in the 1/4 mile over 10 years ago!

i'll be glad to test out a couple theories w/ my car -- need to get the TT's on it first
-- but i won't be back for at least a year

Theoretically, you can figure out how much power you need to go a certain speed by a formula...
Power = velocity^2 * drag coefficient * frontal surface area * density of the air.
Isn't Brent's car a convertible? Drag is probably killing the 200 mph goal.

I am finally back at the shop. I checked with Brent, and they are on the road to their next stop, which is Billings, Montana, so he wont be posting for a while.
Vid should be up shortly...stay tuned.

I did that speed on a toll road the other night. Only one on the road, except for the bugs. Man those things splat at that speed!
