Default Noise in the valve tran:((

I just started hearing something in my valve tran ticking or loose. i dont have rocker arms so what could be causing this.. i have to repl the valve cover gasket so i want to see what to look for while im there.. any ideas of what it could be. its in the top part of the motor. maybe injectors goin out idk u tell me what u think. its a 2004 with 99000 miles doesnt smoke or leak runs and looks like it did off the show room floor.

Happened to me - it was the top of the piston that had blown itself off. It was above the rings, so it still had compression and was not smoking from oil. Check your spark plugs, as the piece that got loose on mine hit the center electrode of the spark plug and shorted it.

I still had power and idle was ok until a second piece got loose. It wasn't a "tick" but more like you were gargling glass marbles.

the Z commonly has noise from the lash on the buckets. and injectors will tick after being run hard, but goes away after cooling down or what have you.

I am not by any means an expert, so take what I say as just an opinion, but I would say it's probably just what I mentioned: noise from the cams acting on the buckets. over time the clearances increase so there is a chance to get noise from the tiny point where the drivetrain goes from under tension to free and back.

without hearing it though I am simply hypothesizing.

**** it, take it as an opportunity to throw cams in. why not. (j/k)

Yea, the 300's and 350's tend to make quite a bit of valvetrain noise. Could also be a small exhaust leak, sometimes they sound like lifter ticks. Bust out a mechanic's stethescope and take a listen to the valve cover and the exhaust.

Step 1. Sell Car.

Step 2. Spend money on spelling and grammar lessons.

Solves most of your problems.

JESUS!! You even misspelled in the title.

Did you really buy a 6 speed transmission for your automatic car and then ask my350z how to install it? Wow... you really are a rocket scientist.

If you were having timing chain problems there would likely be other driveability issues going on. Seriously, get a mechanic's stethescope
and check all those problem areas, see where the noise is loudest.
