Smile Automatic Transmission (A5) Pan Drain Plug Size?

Does anyone know the millimeter size and thread pitch of the A5 ATF drain plug? I'd like to install a magnetic plug after I clean the pan. Thanks! Charlie '05 Redline Touring Roadster

As I recall I use a 14 mm socket to get it on and off, but I don't think you will benefit from replacing it with a magnetic bolt. There should be two large magnets at the center of the pan already installed.

Manual transmission is M18x1.5

Maybe they are the same for an auto????

Isn't the drain plug a 10mm hex key, not a hex head?

Nope there is big 'ol pan with a hex bolt in it. The 5AT holds 10 qts of fluid!

Really appreciate your replies...and it is an external hexagon. Don't know what size wrench is required, but that won't be a problem. The problem is not knowing what size millimeter diameter and pitch magnetic drain plug to order, BEFORE I drop the pan. In addition to cleaning the inside of the pan, I will be adding a Magnefine filter and removing the pan magnet(s). That's why I want a magnetic plug, i.e., so I don't have to remove the pan every time I change the ATF. With a magnet in the drain plug, in the Magnefine filter, and by using Red Line 100% synthetic ester ATF, the ATF will remain cleaner, not accumulate much crap in the bottom of the pan, so I won't have to remove the pan again. Thanks!

I spoke with a Nissan tech earlier today and he thought, but wasn't sure, the 5AT ATF drain plug was the same size as the engine oil drain plug or M12 x 1.25. Can anyone verify or deny they're both M12 x 1.25? Thanks!

Well, I changed all my fluids (engine, 5AT, PS, Differential) to Red Line products today. The 5AT drain plug is M12 x 1.25 with an M19 external hexagon. However, I was not able to use a magnetic drain plug because the factory plug is short, about 1/2" threaded, and there is no clearance inside the trans for a longer plug. Thanks!

Did you find any debris in the pan? How much material was adherent to the magnets?
