JmanZ- 30 minutes might be a bit optimistic- but certainly no more than an hour. If it is possible to leave the wires in the hot sun for a while before installation, they will be easier to work with.
I'll let you all know if the 6th wire makes a difference!!!

Holy crap, I installed the kit yesterday and the SAME THING happened to me. The new bolt started to lose thread, and so I tried to use the factory bolt. That one simply broke off...

I was told by a friend that I can get it out using a special attachment on a drill... but for now it's attached to a nearby bolt (probably same as you).

With regards to the kit... in all honesty the idle on this car, once warmed up, was about 750 rpms... which is what it is now. However I do notice smoother acceleration, very linear, after 4k in every gear =)

Plus it looks damn cool. Took me about 1.5 hours to do everything. Pics in the thread definitely helped. Thanks insane

I installed my InSaNeAmine grounding it this past weekend. Very high quality product. The kit came with good instructions, etc, although I did have to print out the thread with the pictures to really be sure I was connecting the right stuff. It took me 2 hours to install the kit...this is because I dropped a screw into the pan of the engine (DOH!) which took me forever to retrieve (I ended up using a powerful magnet to drag it out). Once installed, the kit looks great.

My only recommendation for improving the installation would be to use a torque wrench when tightening the bolts to the manifold to prevent bolt breakage or stripping of the manifold threads.

I also realized after covering an entire screw with threadlock (like a dumbass) that the instructions say not to do that. I assume this is because threadlock is not conductive...so I waited for the stuff to dry, removed the screw, wiped the stuff off, then re-installed it.

The car does seem smoother now at idle, and when in the higher RPM's but it's not a HUGE difference...you're not going to be flooored by the change IMO, but it's definitely worth it. Just knowing the engine has better grounding makes me feel better about installing future mods etc. I highly recommend this kit!

Just installed the kit. I got it 6 days after i sent in the money. Wow! considering I live up in Toronto, Canada. It took me roughly 1.5 hours for the install. Very professional and very idiot proof instructions. After the install, I did notice a change in the idle. It is now smoother and I seem to be getting a better throddle response. It did also dress up my engine a little. Great job pretty much to everyone b/c it was everyones thumbs up on the kit that made me get one. I reccommend it.

That makes 3 of us then my alternate location works just as good (I like to think in my head that it works even better.)

I'm with you. I think InSaNaMiNe had it all wrong. I think it is SUPPOSED to be connected to that other screw at the back of the manifold holding that dealing thing on. Mine probably runs much better than the guys who didn't break off a bolt. Good for at least 5-6 hp more.

You guys with broken bolts, did you leave the bolt inside ?

I have a whole saga now trying to take it out...

Check this thread out, and give me your opinions, please!

Im sorry but, why did the bolt break off in the first place??... was it starting to cross thread and thats what made it get real tight causing it to snap??

On the first bolt you said "The new bolt started to lose thread"... what do you mean by lose thread?

Sounds like in your other thread one person used grade 8.8 bolts (stronger?). This may be a good idea to stop this small issue when installing the grounding kit.

Insaneamine... what do you think?

Exclamation Bustin' Bolts

Hello everyone!

I think you guys need to lighten up on the torque!

I am using 8.8 steel bolts!!!

I have installed and removed several kits from my own car without any stripping or breakage.

1. I installed the original "smoked" kit I made from Victor’s thread way back when.

2. I took that one off and re-measured the lengths, made a new kit and installed that one.

3. Then, I did my first pictorial install with the red wires.

4. I took that kit off and replaced it with a silver kit because people wanted to see a silver kit installed.

5. THEN, I removed that kit and did another pictorial install with another red set for my web site, which will be up very soon.

All without stripping or breaking a single bolt.

I decided to keep the red set installed ‘cause it really matches nicely with my Injen CAI! AND, because I am tired of installing grounding kits!

All I can say is not to bare down on the bolts so much. They don’t need to be “welded” to the manifold or to the chassis. A snug fit is all that is needed. The Loctite will do the rest.

Thanks again for everyone’s input and support. Y’all are fantastic!

Mine broke for the same reason Guy mentioned, over torque.

After learning that too much torque broke them I eased up and didn't break anymore. Still love the kit.

Guy, you should add an idiot warning not to try to prove how strong you are by twisting the bolts off. I guess I'll try that bolt remover kit if I can find it. I doubt it will come out. I have to take it in to Nissan anyway for the feathering TSB and the grease streaks. Maybe my buddy there can get that bolt out.

Rob James,

Your avatar is the expression I had on my face when I realized I over torqued the bolt. That was me, I was bummed and shocked. I felt like an idiot, but I just found a new spot and got over it. No ill effects, just a lesson learned.

Default Black & Decker Screw Extractor

Time for the ole Black & Decker Screw Extractor Set. Found at your local Home Depot or Lowe's for under $10.

Center drill the broken bolt as best you can with a small drill bit. Start SLOW! Widen the hole if necessary. Use the screw extrator to remove the broken bolt.

The screw extractor has a reverse thread on the tip so, as you tunr the tool in the normal direction to remove the screw, the tool "bites" into the broken bolt and pulls it out.

In theory, mind you!!!

I broke a stud on my MR2 Turbo's header! Talk about a pain in the rump.

Guy:

For those of us without CAI, where would you recommend we ground the 6th wire? Is it necessary to remove the air box to do so?

Thanks again for your professional courtesies!

Yeah, i noticed this when i got home and tried to put the 6th wire on. I think what im going to going to do is get my hands on the ground wire on the right hand side of the engine. It looks like there is too much stuff to remove to get to it, so i might just cut it and re-crimp an end on it. Then drill a hole and mount it in an easier place to get to. I wont really have time to do this till the weekend, so we'll see what you guys can come up with first.
