Default New 2006+ tail lights: Installation help please!

I had figured that I would be able to find an answer to this using the search function, but it was not to be.

Just bought some new-to-me 06+ LED tail lights.

Removal if the original lights went fine, but the connectors for the new lights don't fit. They are the same design but are vertically inverted. See pics to make this clear.

How can I fix this? I could just take a utility knife and trim my factory connector. Any other ideas?

Thanks

Yup, that's what I had to do. I thought why the hell did they do that. use a utility knife and then sand.

enjoy the LEDs!

if you look at the provided image, you can see the slots where the tail light plug "should" slide into. but the plug's extensions are inverted, so it will not slide in at all.

I can't remember exactly but I believe I shaved off all of the extensions except for the bottom extensions since they fit. it's okay to shave them off since the plug snaps into place on the bottom.

my LEDs have worked great ever since I installed them back in July.

Resolved.

Took a utility knife to all of the ribs on the white connector pictured above (except for the snap-in connector at the left in the pic).

With careful trimming, no sanding or other mods were required. I used electrical tape to completely seal up all connectors to the light. Not necessary - especially as my car never even sees rain - but it also helps the mechanical connection. Sure can't hurt!

yes, sanding is optional. just makes for a cleaner appearance, but no one will see it anyways.

That's weird, I don't remember having to do this to my lights.

What year is your Z OP?

correct, only the '03's....I have a '04 with no problems.

The JDM '06 + tails do need some trim work.

Yep, I have an 04.5 and had no issues mounting 06+ OEM LED tails.

Hi everyone. I really need help on this. The previous owner of my car has cut off the connectors that plugs right into the lamp. Now that I don't have connectors but a bunch of wires twisted and taped to the wires of the altezza tail lights (dislike it -_-). Currently, I have bought a pair of oem led tail light, I need some suggestions on where to buy these connectors. Been searching for them but never found one.

Thanks in advance
