I think that most of the senior members on this forum would agree that it does get somewhat annoying when new members come onto the forum and post "SR20 in Z?" or "RB26 in Z". I think we should push for a new sub-forum that will make it easier for those who struggle finding info so that things such as the RB26 swap can be more easily found to help reduce used bandwidth from multiple threads about the same thing. This has nothing to do with the RB26 swap thread that is a few threads below this.

I was just on the Miata forums and they have a sub-forum for swaps and it seems to clean the forums up quite a bit and make info more accessable. I know that I recently saw a 13b in a Z also and things like this would be nice to have readily avalible for those who are interested. Let me know what eveyone thinks.

because there are :

1. more available swaps for a miata
2. no one "source" for reliable info on doing it to a Z....there are almost none in existance

 

i mean, there are probably a total of 5 to 10 Gs or Zs with a different motor in them in the whole world... thats probably why. i think its a good idea for a catagory if we had more people doing it.

 

Good idea. The swap forum can also include all people selling complete motors or longblocks instead of mixing it all with engine internal parts and seperate components.

 

I understand that the number of swapped Z's and G's are few and far between, but doesn't it ever get sickening seeing "can you put a RB26 in a Z?"

It will never work, because look how hard it is to get people to post in the right sub-forum now. 1 out of 1000 threads created about a swap are actually created by someone who is seriously considering one and you can usually tell by their first two sentences if they're serious or not. They never are and for the most part swaps still are a dumb idea. Why don't we make a trash can to collect swap threads in instead.

 

i say do it. you can never have too much research on a topic. as zexy said i think you include the longblock and shortblock build up in that forum.

 

Yeah but not too many people are actually interested in buying complete VQ motor swaps at least not from the looks of things.. if there were I wouldnt need to be looking for an 04.5z rather Id buy an 03 and do that 2jz swap.

 

That's because the car is only 4yrs. old. The number of people doing swaps is only going to get bigger. The need is already presenting itself. Why wait?

 

Seriously though, every other day someone is either asking about the LS1, RB26 and especially the HR now.

Heck, you could even add strokers in this section since that is another thread that has been beaten to death.

 

I would guess maybe in a few years swaps will be more popular once more people get these cars payed off and out of warranty.

 

I guess the point would be to put all of the swap threads into a section that would allow those who are interested in swaps to better search.

 

Having a sub-forum is nice because it would give people who really had some knowledge a place to share it and a place for moderators to move that trash out of the General > 350z section.

I just quickly browsed a few of those swap topics and in every one of them the question was why? It just seems if you read one you’ve read them all, they’re all about bashing the idea of a swap rather than keeping the VQ.
(maybe not all but most)

 

That is exactly what I am saying. Every one of these threads is essentially the same thing and that is because most people don't know how to use the search function an end up cluttering up the forums with repeat questions that they just get flammed for instead of informative replies.

I don't think that the flamming comes from the lack of helpfulness that our members have because as a community we are all willing to help an share knowledge. However, many of the members get tireless of seeing the same questions.
