Official STS Rear Mount Turbo Discussion Thread
Last january i drove it down to texas. On the way back i drove in that massive snow/ice storm. Took about 16 hours in the snow to get back.
I have a boosted performance mid mount kit and i drive mine long distances a lot. Usually once or twice a month i take it on a 4 hour trip to indiana (sometimes 7 hours if i head to my friend's house in indianapolis).

Built or not, you should be able to drive wherever you want for however long you want. This is the main reason you should change the cheap oil return pump that comes with the STS kits. Get an Exa scavenge pump (pm me if you need one) and go wherever you want without having to worry about anything. IMO with any low mount or rear mount kit the scavenge pump makes or brakes the kit. It is almost $400, but well worth it.
Wow, holy crap I read threw as many pages dating back to 2008 and have a ton of questions.
First off forgive my ignorance if my questions may irritate but it's something I must do.
I recently purchased this kit-

I drive a 2006 350z M/T, and for the most part I wanted boost. This entire kit did no come with Utec or injectors but I think I got everything else with it to bolt it on, and I just purchased a utec with map and my friend gave me DW 600cc injectors. My questions are this-
1. With this type of setup what does something like this cost laborish wise to install?
2. Does anyone have an install manual or a how-to so that I can try my hand at this. My email is royalvalet@usa.com How long would something like this take it install?
3. Do you recommend me buying anything else for this kit to run more reliable? My current power goals is 380rwhp-400rwhp. No more than that because I really don't feel like buying a new motor as this is my daily. The only mods I have on my 350z is stage 1 clutch and flywheel combo with a UR crank pully and thats it.
4. What is a REALLY good tune shop thats close to New orleans, la that yall recommend?
5. With this type of turbo setup, what kind of spool can I look on getting? will it lag a lot.? would getting specific testpipes help the spool better? I've seen mixed reviews about people actually losing hp adding testpipes to their setups? If it is a good mod to do, what testpipes would you recommend? I don't have emissions down here so I won't care about cats.
Please and thank you.

I just emailed you a copy of the manual. Just FYI about the cheap STS oil return pump, I have the original STS kit since the beginning when I had it installed around spring of 2007. I have about 50K miles on the kit and I have yet to replace a single part. Granted STS have change a lot of parts with the newer kit so I can really speak on the reliability on the newer kit.
If you can stand the noise and the smell then the Test Pipe will give you better performance hands down. Getting a good boost controller will help with the lag especially on the lower gears. Higher gear (4th-5th) is not a problem and should hit full boost around 3500rpm without a problem.

you have lucked out. The hot oil out of the turbo will eventually break down the diaphragm type oil pumps which causes them to fail. That's why there has been a rise in gear driven pumps. No rubber to destroy.
The fwd intake manifold has been limiting power. Once I bolt on the Mrev2 I have it should be at 500s.
hmm never knew that the fwd intake manifold had a limit. And i thought the more power the less life of the engine am i right or wrong. I'm just trying to find a good area of power but still want to have fun. Oh and what psi are you at even though it is auto.
mid 400's for a year on vortech
mid 500's for 2 years on turbo
that engine died due to a mistake on my part with a broken oil return line. I drove that car daily when there wasn't snow on the ground and made trips back and forth every couple of weeks to indiana (4hrs). I also took it to texas a few times (14hr trip) with no issues.
Now i'm on another block, 650hp, drive it daily again when there is no snow. 9:1 compression still. Compression won't make THAT much difference so just go with whatever the builder you are using does.
If it matters mine is on 22psi (currently) on e85. I'll be pushing it higher next week. My clutch failed at 650hp so i replaced it with a triple carbon.
