ATI Pro Charger News and Updates (to be ongoing)
Regarding s/c whine, where from the s/c does it most eminate, and how much from each would you estimate? Belt cogs vs air intake.
Thanks again Max, AAM, and all others exploring this new ground for the rest of us and sharing. Man you've got me pumped with those dynos!

Thanks to Shawn ( 6MTHAVOK). I do have a few photos to show

The person actually doing the install is compiling a complete install critique. The guys is great he even had the inlet pipe from the throttlebody chromed for me. He is in Southern Calfornia and since he used my car as a guinea pig he will available to do others. If interested PM me. and I''ll put you in touch with him

Another question: I noticed in these pics, the plastic engine cover is not on. Do you have to lose this cover to install this kit or was it just not reinstalled yet in these pics?
Thanks.
Thanks.
Thanks for the pics especially the FMU.
1. Bonz you can keep the stocl plastic cover and STB but you need to cut a little plastic maybe if anything. With my Crawford Plenum the plastic cover was gone long ago (sold actually and the STB was relocated (I took it off before giving it to FFP.)
2. SC Whine, I love it. It is the sound of power. I don't expect the V8 besides you to think you have close to 400RWHP though so it's still a sleeper hehe.
3. As you noticed Bill the mechanic at FFP who is doing the install has came here, registered and posted pics. We should all give him a polite my350z.com welcome?
4. Bill can you post a pic of your "load bearing dyno" so others used to Dyno Jets can see what I am talking about?
5. Oh sweet Jesus is that really my car?
6. 35 to 50 N20 wet shot or 9 lb pulley?
Opinions being taken now.
7. Headers; Nissan designed the Z with stock compression. Not with FI compression. This includes the stock exhaust. Scavenging comes to mind? Understand that the engine and exhaust is now seeing double the amount of air but the exhaust wasn't designed for it?
Thoughts?
Take care and thanks to all involved for your kind words, labor, input, ideas, photos and questions.
Very strong chance of my car being at the track Wednesday!

One of you guys who have completed the ATI install:
a) did you need to hack any sheet metal , grind any block etc?
b) how visible is the intercooler / filter from the front with bumper on. Some additional pics with bumper on and hood clsed would be great.
c) does the system come with a "valet switch" ?, ie forces bypass of the impeller.
d) IS the ATI fuel pump inline (I assume) or replacement of factory in-tank?
e) do you think the system could really be "un-inslalled" with "no" visible trace to the trained eye?
Thanx
Just a possible suggestion:
I've personally had good results with Water (+optional alcohol) injection on other FI apps. It allows about 2-3 extra psi on the same pump gas, compression, full timing, keeps cylinders carbon free and lowers EGT.
Note: The factory windshield washer tank looks nice and big so an extra tank wouldn't be necessary.

Are there any radiator/cooling concerns because of the intercooler?

(We had to do some minor work here. I will publish what the installer did once complete)
b) how visible is the intercooler / filter from the front with bumper on. Some additional pics with bumper on and hood clsed would be great.
( Should be very visable even with the stock front end louvers intact. Though I doubt they will remain.)
c) does the system come with a "valet switch" ?, ie forces bypass of the impeller.
( NO)
d) IS the ATI fuel pump inline (I assume) or replacement of factory in-tank?
( No it works with the factory one)
e) do you think the system could really be "un-inslalled" with "no" visible trace to the trained eye?
(Probably will look fine if uninstalled)
Thanx

The S/C whine isn't going to deter me from purchasing the S/C (if I decide on that over the TT). However, I'd like to know, since I've never owned a car with a S/C, what's the whine sound like? Is it on all the time?
I reminds me of the sound of my old VW engine with a straight cut cam gear, just louder. Don't know if you know what that sounds like.... OK, kinda like what a bad stereo ground sounds like, just more mechanical. It's a whirring sound that comes from the gears meshing at high speed. Seems like they could put some helical gears in there to reduce the noise. Personally I love it though. Don't know if that makes sense, you really just gotta hear it.

Ditto. The radiator looks like it is completely blocked. The engines obviously going to run at higher temps with the sc going. Are you guys gona be trying to get more flow to that radiator somehow?

The thing you see behind the intercooler is NOT the radiator...it's the A/C condenser and BEHIND that is the radiator.
Not only that, but the engine is not going to run hotter due to any IC being there. Water for cooling the engine does not always circulate through the radiator, otherwise, the engine would be too cool. So if anything, the thermostat will just open more often, or for a bit longer. The engine should be the same temperature. You could even get it to run cooler by changing the thermostat, assuming the Z works this way, and isnt controlling this via the ECU.

Guys, the air will indeed flow through the intercooler and eventually through the radiator. However, the airflow will be affected and the air will be slightly warmer. So the engine cooling will be affected without a doubt. The question is how much will it be affected?
On the street, I don't expect any problems. But on the track (roadcourse), it could present a problem. It depends greatly on how well the cooling system works to begin with. In addition to the intercooler location, the fact that the engine is making more power will mean there is more heat to get rid of when running for extended periods under heavy throttle.

There are ways to keep your car cooler, all modded cars run hotter.
If you are worried about increaing heat I wouldn't mod your car, period.
Some cars pull air for thier radiators from underneath not the front ala LS1 Z28 etc.
On my car I have removed that plastic shroud beneath the engine and the plastic cover over the top of the engine. Then you adjust the stat and get a tranny and oil cooler. You can even adjust the fan temps or add more fans. Be creative in your cooling but don't let it deter you from modding (if you are modding.)
My radiator will be pulling cold air from underneath the car too FYI. I don't know of a single car that runs cool at the track.
jritoli,
GREAT pics,
GaryK where are you at in your install?
I think Jrit may beat me to the track I'm thinking of running a tank of fuel injector cleaner and running it on the street for a week b4 rushing it out to the track testing it out and getting the feel for it. It's 105 here Wednesday anyway with (gasp) possible lighting strikes. WTF?
