Wink Noob question maybe?

Alright Im pretty new to the Z, Ive had it for bout 4 days and Ive just been lookin around, doing a little research. I got a good price on a turbo kit for the Z and was wondering. . My car has 85,000 miles on it. Would this be stupid to turbo on stock internals? I know any type of forced induction is prone to making the life of the car shorter. . but will this destroy it? I dont plan on running more than 8 lbs of boost, but you know how that goes haha. And im just looking for your opinions.

My opinion is ask your tuner. If reliability is your hesitation either pass on FI or take tthe precautionary steps into making sure your motor is strong. With our engines there's no guarantee for tomorrow(FI wise) take some time tto read the FI forums and become familiar with this platform. Good luck

IMO you should be fine. As long as you stay below 400trq. After doing the turbo install I might start saving up around 4gs for a rainy day. Like when your motor craps its pants. I am starting to do that now. Someday it will happen. However a shortblock from IPP is like 2600.

i wouldn't turbo a stock motor with that many miles. that'd be walking on some pretty thin ice.

Don't go over 12 pounds of boost and you will be fine.

Wow... everyone is playing nice today. I will ignore this for a few hours while I take my son to his karate test.

OP, you have been given some solid advice so far. I reccomend you use it and read the stickies at the top of the F/I page.

I'm a noob myself, here are some tips to help you along:
start your search here
https://my350z.com/forum/forced-indu...-noobs-18.html
your question is answered in the first post, but don't stop reading after you found the answer to your question.
Search for your answers before you ask, you will learn more by having to read through multiple threads to find your answer than simply having it handed to you.
I personally have found better luck searching using google to search this forum rather than the search function.

Best of luck to you, I hope you have thick skin

can be answered with a pretty simple question IMHO

do you have the funds at the ready to build a motor if this one goes kaput?

the amount of boost you run is a meaningless number - it depends on what turbo is being used to produce that boost- boost is only a presure rating. Kinda like saying the girl has a great body because she weighs 120 lbs. If she's 5'10, she's model-esque. If she's 4'10, she's might be a bit of a meatball

And why does mileage matter? His mileage is fine for boosting.

i'm going to walk away from this fire pit before i get sucked in.

good luck newb. Soon people will be in to burn you. Best thing to do is start reading about your car and just reading what others have experienced on the forums. This question is posted multiple times a week from new users so the veterans get tired of it (fyi)

Thanks guys. And ive been reading a lot. but theres no post about having as many miles as i do, and still having a 100% stock motor. So I figured this was the best place to ask. I have not gotten a compression test. Like i said i bought the car like 5 days ago. I was just looking into it and trying to get advice from the people who know Z's best. Thanks for all your input and Ill let you guys know what happens.
