Another built motor Vortech dreamer thread.

Ran into a small problem with my cog belt setup. Belt is over the edge by maybe a couple mills. Seems just enough to shred belts. I put new belt on last night and did some pulls. Can see on the inside of belt where it's tearing up. Going to the shop on Friday to see what's going on . As far as I can see, everything is still tight. Prolly have to mill down the cog pulley on the inside to get the cog over more.

DO NOT Mill anything.........

All you need to do is space out the Idler Pulley with a washer or two, so that you get all of the belt on both cogs....

here is a pic, see the washer at the base of the Idler Spacer.
Look at the belt on the jackshaft cog, it's offset. and on the blower cog it's offset the other direction. Because of the Vortech Design, you can not get the belts centered.

Oldman, just noticed the picture you posted. I had checked your post on my phone, thanks for the picture. Ive added the washer like yours the other night. Been beating the crap out of it every chance I get. Been doing a lot of 1-3 pulls and so far, fingers crossed, think I have it. No unusual wear on the belts. Car is pulling really hard, loving this weather.

Update on this built vortech... Been having some electrical issues due to my used engine harness. CIN came and picked the car up while I waited for the new harness to get in. They replaced it and everything seemed to be back to normal. Was puttin down 540-550 consistently and even threw down 466 trq. When out on the street doing some logs, the car is losing fuel. After talking to cjm and CIN, we're ditching the single 480 and stock fuel basket for the twin pump setup from cjm. Cjm said they have been havin customers running into trouble trying to push a big single through the stock basket. So that's where I'm at now. Getting in touch with some of the vendors now to see who has the best price.
If anyone is interested I'm gonna be putting this 480 walboro up for sale. Maybe able to work something out with letting my modified fuel basket go with pump to.

Another update, hurray!!
Well engine is back out and sitting at dynosty.. Few weeks ago on the dyno, car was still hitting 540-550. Temp started fluctuating a little bit. Added some coolant and checked some stuff. Same thing. Bobby did a pressure test and noticed some condensation in one of the cylinders. They pulled the engine and pulled the heads off. Found a crack in the cylinder.
Bobby took the engine to dynosty and talked over some things, he also took another block with him. That was on sunday. Got a call today to discuss things. They are thinking that the engine was running on lean side.. Good news and bad news, Bobby is making this right with another built block on his dime. Bad news is more down time. If we went with the same pistons, the wait time is pretty far out for these. So to take a little bit of time off, were going with another piston and slightly lower compression.
Also after talking to the guys at Dynosty and Bobby, might be ditching the uprev and going to haltech. im pretty disappointed in how this turned out, but also very happy that im not being left high and dry. I can not say enough about Bobby and his guys at CIN Motorsports. I am very eager to get this built again, lol. I should have pictures next time I go of the block and stuff. Not really much else I can say or do at this time but wait..

youll love haltech. Great interface, safeguards and easy to use/monitor.
You can tie your boost gauge and widebands into it. Also you can delete the maf so no oil on maf issues.
Also if that picture is recent then yey, that means my car is being worked on too!

So can the old block be made into a table?
Stand alone sounds like it is more of a headache to get going but should be powerful.
Red box and silver are essentially the same. The difference seems to be the harness they come with. Red box can tie into OEM widebands or you can clip its harness and install aftermarket widebands. Not all year Z's had widebands.
Software is free and you can download and play with a map to get the hang of it. Offers a lot of data logging and very easy to navigate.
Every now and then a used one pops up on here for a good deal. You dont need the BC output or solenoid since vortech.

Stopped by the shop to put on some new wheels and black door panels to complete my black interior swap. Bobby said he got a call from dynasty saying that the block work has started finally. Will also be getting a new fluid dampr crank pulley. The key way in the pulley was widening up. Said the keyway was bound to sheer off, just a matter of time. They are getting a second pulley and having a second keyway made so that this wont be a problem. Bobby was told that the crank bolt was still really tight and had to use an impact to remove it. So that's something to look out for, for all you higher horsepower guys.
