This picture is grainy but it shows the effect of inlet temperature Vs HP.
This plot is the reason for keeping the focus of intake design on thermal management.

5" FI cat converters.

Hopefully you can move the cats back to reduce pressure right after the turbo. I had FP create custom cats, 3.5" inlet/outlet, 4.25" core 200 cell metallic. Still lost a solid 40 whp vs. 3.5" test pipes.

If you can come up with a quiet exhaust that matches my custom cats + evoTT performance wise, then I'm ready to give it a shot. Good luck!

There isn't really much to be gained fluidynamiclly but there are significant documentable losses associated with heat soak. Even the stock box gets quite hot when the hood is closed and the car is motionless. When this happens the MAF gets hot and causes the ECU to pull timing.

This causes about a 5-10 HP loss for the first several seconds after launching. (I'll post the Temperature Vs HP dynos.)

IMO the stock air box is the best all around air intake available for the Z. ...That is until the Motordyne Iso Thermal Intake comes out.
So I take it you will come out with something to lower the intake temperature in the airbox?

It's only a matter of time where everyone will have all their mods from Motordyne.

Any other modifications that we should know about?

What kind of gains can we see with the Iso Thermal Intake?

I will start a thread on the intake later.

Meanwhile, does anybody know if/when MRC is open for business?

I can't get hold of anybody there.

Usually around 10ish someone is there. And Julian usually takes off around 5ish for his other job. Have you tried his cellphone?

Its a plot showing Air intake temperature Vs HP.

As shown in the plots, air intake temperature has a very large effect on engine power.

This is why your car feels so much snappier on a cold day. It is also why air intakes should be completely sealed against induction of hot air from the engine compartment.

I don't know if it has been asked, but have you taken into account ground clearance for lowered cars? the placement of the 'cat' section on the Y pipe seems like it could hang down a little lower (not 'hang' but the size of the canister might stick out) than the frame. and that is a section I always rub.

Yes, that was adressed early on.

It is merged up as high as possible to provide the greatest possible clearance. When used in the straight Y pipe configuration, its actually higher than stock.
