Default Recommended exhuast setup to run testpipes without sounding like a Jet?

So I've been doing some searches for a well rounded exhaust setup from Header, testpipe, catback. I like to use a testpipe during track days but don't want to be the loudest one there.

I was shopping for the following:
Strup Headers -> Berk Testpipes -> Injen catback

From the threads, it looks like this is a very loud setup once the testpipes go on. On previous cars I've ran Borla catbacks with testpipes and they sounded great (not loud). Is there a recommended setup that maintains a low exhaust note with testpipes??

I might be able to answer my own question. Looks like the Injen + tp is actually not as loud as some say it is. Perhaps it depends on the video/sound clip.

Looks like I'll go with that Injen...

Remember that Laguna has sound requirements, typically of 92-95dB, of which you WILL fail if you stay on-throttle by the sound check machine. I've been flagged there before with my Injen test pipes and NISMO exhaust. I actually put the cats back on for this reason (plus not so loud around town) and passed their sound check. Tony at Motordyne says cat removal increases sound by ~15dB, and I believe it.

Since then I changed to MD Shockwave single exhaust with y-pipe, still with stock cats. It is pretty loud. I'll find out TOMORROW if I'm over Thunderhill's 103dB limit:

Whoah. I didn't think it'd register that loud. Let me redo the math:
One-hundred thirty, multiply by 2, carry the 1, subtract 30, add back 15, subtract the 1, divide by 2. . . Hmm, seems I'll be around 115dB - woopsy! Hell, I might as well take the cats off!

Honestly, did you see a HP/TQ pick-up with/out the cats and the MD Shockwave? I do have the resonator in place, which Tony said would quiet it a little bit. Which do you have?

Its hard to calibrate exactly how loud these exhuasts will go based off youtube videos. I need to see/hear it in person. Anyone near the bay area have the Injen cat-back with tp? (I'll ask the regional threads)

Some videos make the setup sound quiet enough, some are obviously too loud. Scott - your video clip sounds like you have to stick with the cats on! That's loud as is.

BTW, I am in San Jose. That dyno is at Z Car Garage. The car was no quieter before when it had NO cats with NISMO though.

Oh, nice. Maybe I can checkout your car at the next meet or something. I'm leaning towards the Injen+tp if it isnt abnoxious. Just want to hear it in person since these vids seem misleading sometimes.

I have headers on mine , resonated test pipes , the XYZ pipe with resonator and was running the shockwave. I have never tried the exhaust with cats YET, I'm about to.

Get the Motordyne exhaust and put the VQ muffler on it when you want it quiet. If you're thinking about FI in the future, go with the TDX version. You won't be disappointed.
