It seems that headers...the lth at least, show very positive gains. Do you think even with quality shorty headers, that the bottle neck..or issue was between the headers and cats/test pipe? Not enough room to breathe, or just too short? Not saying a quality piece like the Crawford doesn't show gains, but comparative to the usual headers and test pipes, why exactly do the long tubes show great gains, vs a "normal" header. I know the general rule is that long tubes outs shine shorties, but it's seems that shorties don't do much at all. I mean look at the exhaust manifolds on the hr, they are pretty much shorties. Idk I'm blabbering... And talking in circles.

From the results that i remember from the forum, on stock cams, a good short tube/ test pipe setup has comparable performance to longtubes. I do not remember anyone testing shorttube to longtube on a cammed car, . I'm pretty sure i'm wrong though.

I Can't wait to test them with porting, C9 cams and custom fabbed intake.

Probably a 90mm MAF, to the 75mm TB, mated to a Kinetic Velocity manifold that is modded to optimize the bigger TB is my plan now.

Hi,

What are the best options for theses Headers ?

At Conceptzperformance we can choose :

- color (+60$ for black)
- Formed collector with spikes or parallel merge collector (+ 190$)
- Steel or Stainless steel (+200$)

What is the best ? What is the difference between the 2 forms ? I assume the parallel merge will be harder to fit ?

Does it really need to be in stainless steel ? since the surface is coated ...

Thanks.

Ceramic coating can flake off in the long run which leaves the mild steel to be exposed and more prone to rusting and cracking, but how long that takes would vary, I've seen plenty of cars running ceramic coating mild steel headers with no known issues, really up to you if you find it worth it or not.

The color is based on two surface coatings: 1300F or 1800F rated (polished silver vs black).

Hi,

i suppose there is also a weight difference between steel and stainless steel (with the latter less heavy)
The stock headers are in steel on the HR no ?

I saw you have a cammed HR : what cams duration ? Was it worth it ? How much power do you have with the cams and the PPE ?

Thanks

So the only difference between the DE and the HR versions is the stepped runners, correct?

Just curious, why didn't they put "stepped runners" on the DE versions?

I think it has something to do with the exhaust timing. Not sure but PPe explains it.

On a DE, non-stepped vs stepped:

Nabush, Tomei 264's. Power gains will vary from dyno to dyno, I've done a before/after with the cams and headers separately. Cams were about +11whp, can't remember torque, but the headers were +11whp and +25tq - amazing gains in pretty much every RPM range (I can't recall if cam timing were modified after cam installation, but my final tune after the headers had over 20 runs). If you are looking at cams, I'd take a look at this article:

http://www.modified.com/tech/modp-10...m/viewall.html

I settled with 264's because I wanted daily drivability, I've seen some videos of 272's idling on a Z and it seems too rough to be a daily driver. I would suggest you get the PPE headers first, see if you're satisfied with the gains, and if not, consider cams. The cams themselves are about $700 to $900, the labor however is very long. It was worth it to me because I want to stay NA, but if it's power you seek, FI is the road to go down. There's only so much we can do on the VQ NA without pouring a lot of money into them.

Cool thanks for the info. I'm going to try and do LTHs and 264s at the time time. Deciding between the PPEs and the 370z Fast Intentions headers though. Probably whichever comes up used for the best price, lol.

Look over on the 370 forums - I've only seen one PPE header pop up for sale there. When speaking to Paul at PPE though, I was told the PPE VQ37VHR headers would not fit on the HR.

So it's either a used PPE HR or FI VHR
