Nice! You have any pics of it? Are you using 3.5" and/or 4"?

Jake,

What became of the kinetix intake setup? I think we are ditching the OEM plenum idea and going to with the Kinetix. It will be way easier to fab up a 3.5" pipe to it. It is lighter weight and is SS so it handles heat better.

The Kinetix has a decent design, but was kinda not well executed... If you were in Houston, I could have had this done a long long time ago...

Do you think the OEM plenum would be a better option to modify than the Kinetix?

I haven't really been pushing to get this done since I am still racing in TTB/PTB. It has kind of been put on the back burner. Although I want to get everything fabbed up and make sure it all fits before I pull my motor so I know it will be ready to go on the new motor.

Seems like the prices on used VQ's have been going up...

My opinion is that both intakes have their short falls. The oem just doesn't flow enough in stock form but the lower is designed well. The Kinetix is great until it comes to the log style plenum where they made it boxy. I would take a Kinetix, cut off the log plenum and start over from there. The 350z engine bay is not one that is nice for intake manifolds... If it wasn't for the oil filler neck in the valve cover I would design one that has the plenum on the driver's side has a TB bolted directly to the plenum (no neck) and a short intake long enough to fit a MAF. But I sold my 350z before I got around to working on this project...

Thanks for the input. I agree, the engine bay is quite tight and there is not a lot of room for anything.

Are you using the stock Maf tube or you change it to a larger one?

sorry i dont get on here much. its finished and installed. just trying to get the uprev software to open the throttle more for a stable idle. the most it will open it, regardless of any value between -500 and 10000 in the idle cells, doesnt seem to make any change at all whatsoever to the throttle body position. i need it to open to about 1-1.05v. anything less than a volt and it stalls out. i could tune the car quickly if i could just get the ecu to respond to changes. if i put my foot in it just a little bit, and hold it at 1.05v it idles nice, but it reads 50% on the throttle table. its not even close to 50% pedal. when the car is in gear in the run position, the tb is perfectly actuated by the pedal and you can trace it out on the throttle table with logging and tracing enabled. the minute u try to start the car though it stops acting right.

putting a 3.5" tube into the 3" kinetix plenum requires a LOT of work. after doing it, i can tell you why no one else has gone through with it before. id love to get some numbers on it, but ive gotta get it to start and run first.

So I've read this front to back, had this thing been a novel it would be one hell of a page turn

So Fixxercask I see you have run into and gotten past so many propblems, thank you for that. Now with deciding on the intake manifold...well its not a perfect solution, but the stock one I wanna help get working. I have a spare VQ35DE and therefore a spare intake manifold I can do this work on, do you have a template or plate or the manifold you sent mw9 I could use to reweld I have mig and tig welders and want to wrap this up lol. I'd like to add functionality to the stock manifold for you/us/community since they are by far easier to come by since we all already have them. I would be willing to start off a rotation of swapping and modifying these manifolds to help.

I've subscribed so respond here or PM me, it will be done in like 2 days maybe we'll be able to finish this afer 13months

Has this fizzled out or is it still a work in progress? Either way I'm subscribed now just in case!
