ok, guys - here's one you don't see everyday. i'm seriously considering changing careers. i'm SO tired of the red tape, politics and killer deadlines of advertising. and i'm not the only one going into something TOTALLY different than advertising. the person i co-supervise my department with is becoming a massage therapist, lol.
i'm thinking of becoming an auto tech. anyone else do this or know someone who does? i would imagine the pay will suck at first, but can move up....right? i'm in the beginning stages of research, but would like to get feedback from people here.
thoughts? ideas? i'm all ears.

I had a couple friends who went to NADC (Nashville Auto Diesel College) and they came out of it with pretty decent paying jobs (for rural Illinois). That was 10+ years ago too though.
Given infinite resources I would be done with computer programming and play farmer. :P When my Dad quits farming I don't know what I'll do on vacations.

washtenaw community college in A2 has motorcycle and auto tech certification/associates programs. i may look more into that...but i'd really like to know real-world career pathing in that field, starting salary, etc. first. guess i'll have to keep looking around for research. maybe even head to my local nissan dealership to talk to someone there.

I don't know man
They are laying off a bunch of auto techs around here.
I just don't know if in the middle of this recession switching careers is the best thing to do. Stay the course for a bit see what is going to happen...
Thats my advise

it would also be something to fall back on. i work in a very specialized field, where we're losing enormous clients left and right. we just lost a $10 mil/year client - and when that happens, our dept. downsizes. so - you can't find big advertising jobs just anywhere. but people always will have cars, and shops are in every town.
i appreciate it, guys. it's over a year program, so no big changes will be happening immediately anyhow. like i said - i'm just in research mode.

EBC yellows only lasted 1 track day.
Wow.. Well, I'd like to take back the nice things I said about EBC Yellow brake pads. They DID perform very well for 1 track day at Waterford. They ARE now almost GONE. I've got about 1/8 inch left. Glad I checked before tracking with them at Grattan! Emailed Oakos this evening - calling them in the morning. Hopefully they got some good race pads in stock for my crusty non-brembo brakes.
